Sky Sports and Five renew in GBR

Fans of A1 Team Great Britain and the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport will be able to keep up with the excitement for the next three seasons as Sky Sports and Five have both extended their agreements to broadcast the global motor racing series ahead of the 2008/09 season.

Sky Sports, which has broadcast A1GP since its inaugural race in September 2005, has extended its contract as host broadcaster for a further three years until the end of the 2010/11 seasons.

Sky Sports will continue to broadcast both live coverage of Saturday qualifying and Sunday’s races, as well as airing a number of repeat programmes.

The Sprint and Feature races will again be shown uninterrupted, with popular presenter Georgie Thompson returning to front the show in the studio.

Terrestrial viewers will also not miss out as Five will continue to broadcast a highlights package on its regular late night sports slot within a week of the race.

“Ahead of such an exciting season, it is fantastic news that A1GP has confirmed that television broadcasts will continue on both Sky Sports and Five,” said Katie Clements, A1 Team GBR team principal. “This will enable Great Britain to watch their national team in action in a season in which we are determined to take the championship.”
