Malabar Devaswom to revise salaries

Festival allowance, pending salary, DA to be disbursed

Managements asked to give schedule of temples’ functions


Kozhikode: Bringing relief to hundreds of employees, including priests of temples in north Kerala, the newly constituted Malabar Devaswom Board has decided to restructure the salary and service conditions of the staff.

A decision to this effect was taken at the maiden meeting of the board chaired by Chairman K. Gopalakrishnan here on Saturday. A four-member committee, including the chairman as president has been formed for the purpose. A.K. Balan, P. Krishnan, G. Sankaran are members of the committee. It would submit a report to the government within a month, Mr. Gopalakrishnan said.

He said that the temple managements under the Malabar Devaswom Board would be asked to chalk out a schedule on the temples’ functions. All temples would also be asked to include the title Malabar Devaswom Board along with their individual names.

Steps would be taken to disburse festival allowances and pending salaries of the staff. After getting reports from the Assistant Commissioners in this regard disbursement of festival allowances would be streamlined. Dearness allowances would be given to employees, who could not collect them earlier, he said.

Option to employees

Mr. Gopalakrishnan said that employees of the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment had been given an option to choose other departments in the wake of the formation of the Malabar Devaswom Board. The deadline is November 31. They would be appointed before March 31, 2009. The State government would be urged to fill vacancies in view of the employees opting for other departments.

The board also approved the budget from October to March 2009 and for 2009- 2010. The existing method of disbursing salaries to employees would be continued till March 2009.

The meeting also constituted three standing committees for finance, public works and environment, and welfare of employees. Mr. Gopalakrishnan would be the president of the finance committee; V. Krishnan, public works and environment and A.K. Balan, welfare of employees.

The meeting also decided to divide the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment into five categories.

A building complex would be constructed for the board and vehicles purchased for officials’ use.
