How to Avoid Swine Flu Pandemic Panic

The Swine Flu Pandemic panic is in the air. In only a couple of days it has overthrown the television and radio stations, shut down schools, and put face masks on thousands of people. Although the Swine Flu appears to be moving this is the nature of viruses. From the 300+ million people in the United States the number of infected is low. Watching the news can only make your fear worse, so let's get the facts and avoid Swine Flu Pandemic Panic.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • correct information
  • hand washing
  • sleep
  1. Step 1

To avoid Swine Flu panic you must first get accurate information from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). As of April 30, 2009 there has only been one reported death from this and barely over 100 people have fallen ill in the United States. Swine Flu is also known as H1N1 Flu. If you go to the CDC website at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/index.htm you will find where cases of Swine Flu have been confirmed.

  2. Step 2

Wash your hands. When you wash your hands rub them together thoroughly and create friction as that gets the germs off of your skin. This is true for general health as well as disease and illness prevention. You cannot get Swine Flu from eating pork, so don't boycott the pig farmers. The Swine Flu is passing like any flu virus which is mainly from person to person. One common way for a flu virus to pass is by a person sneezing or coughing and the spittle going into the eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes of the recipient. Don't cough on other people! It is a flu virus and viruses are natural at mutation so when the news person talks about the virus mutating remember this is what it's supposed to do.

  3. Step 3

If you develop flu-like symptoms don't go to work or send you child to school. If you already have the Swine Flu Panic then go to the doctor or just go to your doctor for a check-up anyhow. When coughing or sneezing do it into your elbow rather than your hand. A virus can live on a hard surface for up to 72 hours, so you don't want to pass your cold or flu onto someone else, Swine or not.

  4. Step 4

Use the antiviral formula Yin Qiao San if you plan to travel by airplane or to a place where there is a flu breakout. Contact a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner for that formula. The advice I was given is to use it the entire time of travel plus five days after returning home.

  5. Step 5

Remember Bird Flu. Thousands of birds were slaughtered a couple years ago when the Bird Flu Pandemic panic spread through the news and had people in a panic about a pandemic outbreak. This pandemic panic enabled pharmaceutical manufacturers to quickly push TamiFlu through to marketing, and although it was reported that the supply was low and not enough to treat everyone if indeed a pandemic broke out.

  6. Step 6

Mediate your media sources. This is a hot topic that gets a lot of press and scares people so the media is all over it. It only takes one look of the time progressed Swine Flu Pandemic map to scare a person. This map is a picture of what could happen not what is happening. If you take the regular flu precautions chances are that you will not get the Swine Flu and this too shall pass.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cover your mouth, cover your sources of information.
  • If you are worried about leaving the house or going into places that might infect you check out the map in Step 1 to see if there are verified cases of the flu in your state and area. Don't just rely on a local news source for your information.
  • This article is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
