The online home of Ludlow’s only award winning restaurant with rooms. To let you know a little about us, we arrived in Ludlow in November 1997, having, for the previous 16 years, run a restaurant in Stonham, Suffolk, also called Mr Underhill’s. We wanted to move to have letting bedrooms and after much searching, found the perfect location in Ludlow, to develop somewhere that little bit different for you to enjoy a break away without it costing an arm and a leg. Chris is self-taught and has never worked in any kitchen other than his own.

Our menus constantly evolve with greater emphasis on freshness & natural flavours, rather than chemistry and technology. As much as possible of our produce is obtained locally & whenever practical is organic. We only use wild venison from the Mortimer Forest, just the other side of the river from us. Our beef and lamb are from farms within the Marches and our local chickens are from a farm near Leominster. Fish is delivered direct from Cornwall. A wander around ludlow will show you just how well blessed we are with outstanding supplies and suppliers.

The courtyard is packed with plants chosen for colour and perfume. The restaurant is bright and airy with lots of glass to draw the garden in.

We feel that there is more to a meal than just food and we have built our reputation on combining good food with caring, attentive service in relaxed, comfortable surroundings.

We have been famous for our daily tasting menu which allows us to serve only freshly prepared priome ingredients.

Ludlow is a truly beautiful market town and Mr Underhill’s is in a spectacular position on the banks of the River Teme, sitting at the foot of the castle ramparts. We are just five minutes walk from the river edges, the wooded walks of the Whitcliffe Common and the Mortimer Trail.

Along with stunning buildings, specialist shops and beautiful walks, Ludlow hosts numerous events throughout the year including the Ludlow Festival, Secret Gardens Weekend, Food & Drink Festival and Horse Racing.

Should you exhaust everything that Ludlow has to offer, you still have all of the Marches to explore.

Mr Underhill’s is a conservation area – whilst the Heron is a bit of a poser, you will have to keep your eyes peeled over breakfast to spot the Kingfishers or the Otters.

The en-suite bedrooms are now fully refurbished with stylish comfort being the prime requisite. Hand made beds, lots of natural materials, plus the extras to make your stay special and memorable.

All are non smoking and overlook the river to the Whitecliffe Common

Do you want a little more space to relax and unwind? Our Suites are there for just that purpose.

The Miller’s House, a 300 year old stone cottage, is just the other side of the lane from the main building and is divided into 2 suites. One with a very large sitting room and upstairs bedroom and bathroom, the other with its own little courtyard and smaller sitting room, again with an upstairs bedroom and bathroom with a second snall bedroom available.
