On June 16, the new Children’s Zoo opened to the public.  The first inhabitants included cows, ponies, sheep, chickens, goats, rabbits, prairie dogs, a pregnant pig, and an egg hatchery.  The Children’s Zoo consisted of seven acres and cost $700,000 to construct.  In November, the first woolly monkey was born in captivity at the Zoo.  The baby’s parents rejected it, but a puppet became its substitute mother.
