The Governing board consists of the following members.

1. Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita - Founder-President
Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita , founder-President of Maha Bodhi Society, Bangalore was born in a Bengali Brahmin family in the then eastern state of Manipur in India. He was born on March 12, 1922, a full moon day, in Imphal.

2. Venerable Sanghasena Mahathera -Executive President
Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena was born in the Himalayan region of Ladakh - a state in the northern most part of India. He was brought up in a religious family among people with an ancient Buddhist tradition where peacefulness, humility and innocence are the way of life. At seventeen, he joined the Indian Army where he developed a strong sense of discipline.

The year 1977 was a significant year in his life when he felt the inner spiritual call, he left the army and became a disciple of the renowned scholar and celebrated monk, Venerable Acharya Buddharakhita Maha Thera, the Founder President of the Mahabodhi Society Bangalore India.

3. Venerable Kassapa Thera - Vice President
Venerable Kassapa Thera, Chairman of the Mahabodhi organizations in Arunachal Pradesh, is one of the most active monks of the Maha Bodhi Society. Deeply devoted, the venerable faithfully performs everyday morning chanting and meditation and creates a peaceful atmosphere wherever he is. With rich experience in management he is handling the entire responsibility of Mahabodhi in Arunachal Pradesh. Under his management the activities have grown widely and are now reaching many deserving people. Humorous in nature, the venerable teaches the profound Dhamma in simple ways.

4. Venerable Bhante Ananda - General Secretary
Born in North Karnataka in 1967 Venerable Ananda took ordination as Buddhist monk under the most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita in 1986. At present he is engaged in managing the various activities of the Mahabodhi in Bangalore, Mysore and Arunachal Pradesh.

5. Venerable Bhikkhu Panyaloka - Secretary
Ven.Panyaloka is assisting Ven.Acharya Buddharakkhita in editing and production of books and managing the publication division. He also organizes the Sunday discourses and has undertaken a huge project of transliteration of Bada Bhante's Dhamma talks.

6. Venerable Bhikkhu Aggadhammo - Treasurer
Ven.Aggadhammo who has worked in Mysore as assistant in charge, In charge of Carla Students Home in Mysore and Correspondent of Mahabodhi School, Mysore, came to Bangalore in 2008 and took over the responsibility of treasurer. He manages all the purchases and stores.

1. Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita

The year 1977 was a significant year in his life when he felt the inner spiritual call, he left the army and became a disciple of the renowned scholar and celebrated monk, Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita Maha Thera, the Founder President of the Mahabodhi Society Bangalore India. After having received full ordination, Ven. Sanghasena undertook enthusiastic studies of the Dharma and also practiced various modes of Buddhist meditation.

With the blessings of his teacher Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, Ven. Sanghasena founded the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) in 1986. Since then he has strived tirelessly to put the Buddha's teachings of compassion into action through multifarious charitable humanitarian works scattered over the 300 acres of moon-like desert land.

Ven. Sanghasena has distinguished himself as a tireless spiritual and social worker and in public recognition of his selfless services to the society, he was awarded the "National award for the welfare of people with disabilities" by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena has traveled extensively around the world and participated in many international conferences, seminars and workshops. He urges everyone to promote spiritual; and cultural values, literacy, environmental protection, non-violence, inter-religious harmony, co-existence and world peace. He supports the improvement of the status of women, poverty stricken people and raises his voice against destructive weapons, human injustice, economic imbalance and racism.

2. Ven. Sanghasena is also associated with several international organizations such as:

    4. Venerable Ananda Bhanteji
    Born on 25-9-1967 at Chikkodi in Belgaum district in North Karnataka, Vivek is the third son of Smt Maitra and Shri Yuvaraj Nandana. The father was a customs officer who had to work in different cities. That gave Vivek greater exposure to different people and situations. Since father was a truth seeker his search ended with Buddhism, as it is the most realistic and rational religion and path to happiness. He encouraged his children to study and practice Buddhism. Even during his childhood Ananda showed inclination towards philosophical thinking and joined his father in puja and meditation.

    At the age of 18 Vivek was already familiar with the Buddha's life and basic teachings and decided to become a monk. He was fortunate to get whole hearted support from his parents, sisters and brothers. In 1986 he took his ordination as Buddhist monk under Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, founder of the Maha Bodhi Society, Bangalore and was named ANANDA. Since then he studied the Buddhist philosophy, psychology, ethics, Pali language under Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita and Venerable Sanghasena. Meanwhile he completed his BA in Education, History and Sociology from the University of Mysore.

    He has been engaged in the spiritual activities like training the monks at Mahabodhi Monastic Institute, conducting meditation classes, giving discourses and developing Buddhists centers. He has been doing social service through educational programs and medical services.

    Since 1998 he has been traveling to Europe bringing the precious teachings of the Buddha to the Western world. He visited Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Austria almost every year to give talks on Buddhism. With the blessings and guidance of Bada Bhante and other monks and kind help of generous people in Europe he has committed himself to the development of projects in India, like Mahabodhi Nalanda Hostel in Bangalore; Mahabodhi School, Carla Students Home and Mettaloka projects in Mysore; Mahabodhi School, Mahabodhi Rita Girls home and humanitarian services in Diyun; Mahabodhi Home for Elders in Tawang. Apart from this many students are being helped by way of sponsorship and guidance.

    Presently he is the General Secretary of the Maha Bodhi Society Bangalore and its branches and apart from above projects he is engaged in Mahabodhi Academy for Pali and Buddhist Studies and Mahabodhi Dhammaduta Vihara projects in Bangalore under the guidance of Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita.

    Venerable Panyaloka after completing his computer course worked as hardware technician for some time. But the inner call to become monk took him to the Tipomia Buddhist temple and he was ordained as a monk. Soon with the kind help of Mr.C.C.Singpho he arrived in Bangalore in 2003. He studied Dhamma under Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita and he started assisting Bada Bhante in editing and publication of books and magazines. He himself has also translated the Dhammapada into Assamese.

    Ven.Aggadhammo after completing his primary education in his native village in Lohit District, came to Maha Bodhi Society, Bangalore and started studying the Dhamma. In the year 2001 when Carla Students Home was inaugurated he became assistant in charge of this home where he was taking care of 120 children. Then after short stay at Bangalore in 2005 he went back to Mysore again in 2006 as the director of the Carla Students Home and managed it for three years. Apart from the Carla Students Home he also managed the Mahabodhi School in Mysore for three years as Correspondent. Under his care the Mysore branch also saw a good change and he was instrumental in organizing Mahabodhi Mettaloka Youth Center.
