Norwich City capture Colchester's David Fox

Midfielder David Fox has joined Norwich City from Colchester United for an undisclosed fee.

Fox has agreed a two-year deal at Carrow Road and becomes Paul Lambert's fourth signing since clinching promotion from League One.

The 26-year-old told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Everyone wants to play at as high a standard as possible.

"Hopefully I'll hit the ground running during pre-season and try and get into the team."

Fox was initially taken to the Colchester by Lambert just 12 months ago, but the Scot later left to take over at Carrow Road.

"He is the main reason why I'm here. He brought me to Colchester and played a big part in what I was doing there," he said.

"He wanted me to play my normal game, just getting it and passing it, he wasn't looking for me to do things I can't do and I like that."

Lambert added: "I brought him to Colchester and the first two games he was terrific.

"I thought we needed a passer in the side, he is a terrific player and once we get him going he'll be a terrific player."

The former Manchester United trainee joined Colchester from Blackpool in July 2009 and went on to score on his debut, the 7-1 thrashing of City on the first day of the season.

"It was some thing scoring at Carrow Road, unfortunately not everyone celebrated but hopefully I'll be able to score many more here," he said.

After a rib injury in December Fox struggled to get back into the U's side but scored three goals in 21 games throughout the season.

Tensions between the two clubs have been high recently after a Football League tribunal ruled City should pay the U's £425,000 compensation after Lambert switched from Essex to Norfolk in August.

But the Norwich boss remained stoic on the situation: "I don't really get involved with the politics, I had a great time there and I'll never say anything bad about anyone there.

"If I can get players into the squad I will and we'll try and drive for next season."

Lambert has already added midfielder Andrew Crofts and defenders Steven Smith and Elliott Ward to his League One title-winning squad.
