Sheffield Wednesday have secured their second summer recruit as Jon Otsemobor agrees a two-year contract at Hillsborough.

The pacey right back is out of contract with Southampton and will officially become an Owls player on 1 July.

Otsemobor, 27, is Alan Irvine's second signing in as many days following the capture of Preston winger Chris Sedgwick on Monday.

The Liverpool product kicked off his career with his hometown club as a trainee in 2002 before loan stints with Hull, Bolton and Crewe. He then signed permanent deals with Rotherham, Crewe, Norwich and Southampton.

Otsemobor has made a total of 218 career appearances and Irvine is delighted to introduce more experience to what will be a revamped squad for the 2010/11 campaign.

Irvine said: "I've known about Jon for a long time, since he was a youth team player at Liverpool. He was a centre half at that time but has since developed into a very attack-minded full back.

"He's a good athlete, quick, strong and knows what it's like to be at a big club having spent his early years at Liverpool and then going on to play for the likes of Norwich and Southampton. He certainly ticks a lot of boxes."

Otsemobor is relishing the prospect of playing for Wednesday, adding: "It goes without saying they are one of, if not the biggest club in the division.

"The most important thing for this club is to get out of this division as soon as possible and myself and the other new recruits can hopefully help push towards that and get the rewards over the season."
