Support Overview

Special Needs

There are many deserving causes at Carolina Raptor Center and lots of ways that we can increase our services to the community. We just need the resources. To assist you if determining some very important issues, we have focused on three challenges.

Food for Raptors

Five years ago an anonymous donors was providing all the food we needed. Carolina Raptor Center is facing some tough questions following the loss of this generous gift.

Satellite Tracking of Eagles

The only bald eagles from the Mid-South that are being tracked were released from Carolina Raptor Center in 2006. We have already learned amazing things from these birds’ journeys. We would like to outfit more eagles with transmitters to determine the success of our rehabilitation and understand more about their lives.

Memorial Garden

The nature trail at Carolina Raptor Center provides an oasis from the hectic pace we all live. A planned garden will give visitors a place to sit and reflect on loved ones.

Contributions

Your contributions of cash, stocks and appreciated assets can support the rehabilitation of injured raptors and education programs. Contributions can be made by check or credit card and mailed or submitted on-line. Contributions of stocks can be mailed or communicated to our endowment administrator, The Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust at the Foundation For the Carolinas, allowing you to receive the greatest tax value through your gift. You may contact Chris McLeod at 704-973-4521, or Email: cmcleod@fftc.org for more information.

Please contact us if you would like to make a gift of property or other items of value.

Planned Giving

You can make a difference by including Carolina Raptor Center in your long-term estate planning. Because each individual has different needs and abilities to give, we suggest that you contact your financial advisor or Chris McLeod, J.D., The Greater Charlotte Cultural Fund at Foundation For The Carolinas, 217 S. Tryon Street Charlotte, NC 28202, 704-973-4521 cmcleod@fftc.org for more information.

Rescue-A-Raptor

We invite you to support the medical care of our patients. We receive between 600 – 800 injured or orphaned raptors every year. All birds of prey admitted to Carolina Raptor Center receive the highest quality of care for their needs. We spend over $500 on the average patient. By supporting the Rescue-A-Raptor program, you can help with the rehabilitation and release of a beautiful bird of prey back to a life in its natural environment.

Corporate Support

Companies of all sizes have partnered with Carolina Raptor Center as their way of giving back to the community. Wild Wings vans courtesy of Public Service Company of North Carolina travel throughout North and South Carolina delivering environmental education programs. Local veterinarians donate their services to perform emergency surgeries on injured raptors. Piedmont Natural Gas donates the use of their giant tents for all festivals and special events. KPMG allows the use of their boardroom facilities for marketing committee meetings. Husqvarna donated a riding tractor for hauling limbs and trail maintenance. Duke Power installed giant telephone poles to set up our eagle aviary-the largest in the Carolinas.

There are so many different ways to get involved! Hold a company volunteer day at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, treat your employees to an Employee Free Day at Carolina Raptor Center, or throw a Raptor Party in your office. Contact Cecily Rose, 704-875-6521 ext 212, to find out more about the possibilities.

Carolina Raptor Center receives several grants each year. Primary grantors include Charlotte Mecklenburg’s Arts & Science Council (www.artsandscience.org), North Carolina Grassroots Science Museums Collaborative (www.grassroots-science.org), and Earth Share North Carolina (www.earthsharenc.org).

In 2007, Carolina Raptor Center received its third grant from the Institute of Museums and Library Services. This grant will allow students to participate in year-round, hands-on wildlife rehabilitation training programs at Carolina Raptor Center.

Carolina Raptor Center is always looking for grants to support the outreach, rescue and educational efforts important to our mission. If you would like to suggest a grant source, please contact Jim Warren, Chief Operating Officer, at 704-875-6521 ext. 112 or jwarren@carolinaraptorcenter.org.
