Karimnagar

Karimnagar is the name of a district in Andhra Pradesh known for its architectural excellence and rich history. As a district it was established in 1906. One of the former Prime Ministers of India, Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao was born in this district.

This district was once an important hub for Vedic information and learning. The district derives its own name from a popular figure Syed Karimuddin Quiladar. Elgamdala was the earlier name of this place. Moreover, it had been one of the significant capitals of the Nizams. It was also ruled by the Satavahanas, Vemulavada Chalukyas, Qutubshahis, Kakatiyas and the Asaf Jahis in the past decades.

The Karimnagar district is also known as an abode of several native tribes like the Chenchus, Koyas and the Gonds. These tribes dwell in their own unique settlements and they also communicate in their individual dialects.  

Today, Karimnagar stands for its stunning metal crafts and filigree silver works. Other popular handicrafts and artworks of this place include Ramadugu Stone Craft, Nakashi paintings and Sirsilla cottons.

Karimnagar also includes several places of tourist attractions like Dhulikatta, Elgandal Fort, Sivaram Sanctuary and Kaleswaram. This place is particularly famous among visitors as a pilgrimage center. People from all over the country visit this place to worship and pay their offerings in different temples located all over the town. Some of the most well known temples include Vemulavada’s Sri Raja Rajeshwari Temple, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple (Dharmapuri), Kaleswaram temple, Sri Anjaneya Temple (Jagityala hill), Nagnur temple and the Kaleswaram temple.
