  • Wearing traditional styles and colors says, “Forget fashion; look at the person.” Wearing yellow clothes with green shoes on the other hand invites commentary. Fashion has its own unspoken language.

  • I t*oug*t t*e O*amas were "in touc* wit* Americans," yet s*e spends t*ousands on *er attire and Barack cannot deport *is illegal immigrant of an aunt or assist *is poverty stricken *alf brot*er? O*ama is just a typical politician w*o said anyt*ing to get elected. *is "cutting taxes on 95% of people" is just a ploy to keep t*e tax and spend attitude in power by increasing t*e percentage of people w*o pay no taxes from 40% to 50% or even *ig*er leaving t*ose of us w*o "work" for a living to be financially burdened even more. W*y work *ard to support t*ose too lazy to work? Get a job Zora.

Like Zora and t*e letter W, I will not use t*e letter between G and I until we are free of O*ama.

  • Who cares except that let's hope she shows some class and wears pantyhose as most professional women do in the workplace.

    By Felixcat , Posted January 22, 2009 7:30 AM
  • Not only are they making too big a deal of it but they give her way too much credit for having fashion sense at all.

    By Brad2 , Posted January 22, 2009 8:12 AM
  • If by "making too much" you mean caring at all, then yes. Honestly, there are more important issues facing this nation than the color of Michelle Obama's dress or the store where she bought her gloves. Let's all try to focus, shall we.

    By Diogenes , Posted January 22, 2009 8:43 AM
  • I love the focus on fashion. What a breath of fresh air!

    By Frank , Posted January 22, 2009 8:43 AM
  • Yes, but I think most people make too much of fashion in general. It's far too subjective of a thing to be treated as some kind of art form let alone a rule base to live by. As long as this administration fixes our country's problems, she could wear a giant sock for all I care.

    By Tim , Posted January 22, 2009 8:44 AM
  • People are making too much of the Obamas' everything. Seems a bit too reminiscient of a cult of personality. Though oddly enough it's perpetrated by the people and not Obama himself.

    By Tim , Posted January 22, 2009 8:48 AM
  • Of course, but the same can be said for Obamas' searches for schools and family pets. Things I don't care about generally come in threes.

By Rick Norton , Posted January 22, 2009 8:51 AM
  • Definitely. However, I would be interested in learning what those fashion choices cost and how many months I'd have to work to be able to purchase any of them.

By Mason Spencer , Posted January 22, 2009 8:55 AM
  • No. Michelle Obama is an attractive woman and she wears beautiful fashions. Like Jackie Kennedy and Nancy Reagan, as first ladies, they set the style and trend for other ladies. I'm sure Michelle will do the same. I love her choice of fashions so far.

    Who or what is "Ohama"???

    By Diogenes , Posted January 22, 2009 9:17 AM
  • People are making too much of everything concerning the First Family. The fawning and adulation will go away by itself.

People, however, will remain stupid. A very rare few finally 'get it' but there are still too many shallow ones.

    By Anonymous , Posted January 22, 2009 9:22 AM
  • Thank you Diogenes!

    By Nancy , Posted January 22, 2009 9:29 AM
  • Diogenes,
Sorry you are not intelligent enoug* to figure it out like Jason Yang did yesterday, but O*ama is Obama, but t*e only difference between Obama and Osama is BS. Get it now? I now see w*y you don't *ave a job eit*er like Zora ... disability, rig*t?

By What happened , Posted January 22, 2009 9:34 AM
  • @Diogenes

Ohama, Kohama and Obama are all romanization for the kanji (Japanese) characters meaning "little beach."

By Den Hollinden , Posted January 22, 2009 9:52 AM
  • The globalist, corporate media has been creating an Obama personality cult for some time. Michelle's fashion sense makes a strong contribution to that and she is somewhat cerebral, like Hillary. Politics is theater and the Obamas are a class act.

By Chaos Theorist , Posted January 22, 2009 9:55 AM
  • In this New Era of Peace, Prosperity, GENDER EQUALITY, Justice, and Love, it is just not appropriate for people to make a big deal about the fashion choices of any woman.

I didn't see anyone making a big deal about President Obama's fashion choices. (Although I do have to say that the evil Cheney looked very much like a totally evil Mafia Don in his black coat and his 1950's-style hat!)

Besides, people should focus on the wonderful, glorious energy that pervades our country now that the evil Bush/Cheney regime of thugs and cronies is finally gone, and we have, instead, someone who truly cares about all people!

By Zora Hopkins , Posted January 22, 2009 10:15 AM
  • Good one Den. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohama
Ohama is pronounced Obama in Japanese.
Zora you loon. If Obama "cares about all people," then why does he not help out his poverty stricken half brother like What Happened mentioned? Obama is like any other politician and only cares about himself.

    By Anonymous , Posted January 22, 2009 10:28 AM
  • @ What Happened

I'm beginning to see the dysfunction of your logic. On the one hand you're attempting to mock Zora's use of asterisk-as-W, and on the other you're implying a link between our democratically elected president and the leader of al Qaeda [very Cheney-esque of you].

Sheesh, where to begin? First, no matter how loopy Zora's postings may have been, at least it was clear to everyone why she was using an asterisk. The problem with your posts is that there is no correlative link between Barack Obama's middle initial, H, and a nickname. As a result, your "joke" falls flat. Second, you claim that your asterisks are meant to replace the letter between G and I, yet in addition employee it to replace the B in "Obama". Clearly you need to study your alphabet. Perhaps a DVD of "Hooked on Phonics" would help? Oh, and a logic puzzle or two wouldn't hurt. Just a suggestion.

    - Diogenes

P.S. I'm gainfully employed, thank you very much. And I hope the 11 million Americans who are currently unemployed find a job very soon.

    By Diogenes , Posted January 22, 2009 10:43 AM
  • I don't pay attention to what people are wearing, and judge them by the content of their character. Former First Lady Laura Bush was a class act no matter what she was wearing. If you're paying attention to what someone is wearing, they must not have much else going for them.

By another person , Posted January 22, 2009 10:59 AM
  • Her fashion choice is fine. But I want to know why her husband hasn't solved all the problem yet? He's been in office for a day. He's not living up to expectations.

    By Anonymous , Posted January 22, 2009 12:12 PM
  • For the first time in many years, it feels good to be an American. My foreign travels these past 2 months has people excited to talk to me about the new President, rather than the persistent railing against the Bush Administration that I have had to endure these past 2 terms.

I believe that in the excitement of the moment, we can allow ourselves the frivolity of discussing the First Lady's fashion sense.

Now, however, it is back to work.

    By WTF , Posted January 22, 2009 12:15 PM
  • Oh, it's getting too complicated. Obama is the hero and Osama is the villian. Never forget that it's all just theater. Villians to frighten us and heros to rescue us. Politics is like religion, a fraud used by the aware few to swindle the unaware many. Oh, it's getting too complicated. Obama is the hero and Osama is the villain. • Diogenes,
I t*ink you *ave lost it. Read Den *ollinden and maybe you can figure it out. Wasn't your boss Larry Flint asking for a bailout just a few weeks ago? Can I borrow your *ooked on P*onics DVD? Sorry my post was too complex for your simple mind.

By What Happened , Posted January 22, 2009 12:37 PM
  • Belive it or not, to some people political fashion choices are as imporatant as whether or not Guantanamo gets shut down. And for those, fashion is a well appreciated ART that deserves as much attention as how Yo-Yo Ma plays the Chello...

    By Luwa O. , Posted January 22, 2009 1:01 PM
  • Yes, in this era of job loss, and recession I think its a horibile example for a woman who was part of the change train to spend a fortune on outfits, and bee seen as a symbol of fashion not of intellegence

By Johnny Panic , Posted January 22, 2009 1:13 PM
  • Not compared with Princess Di. ;)

By Jason Yang , Posted January 22, 2009 1:35 PM
  • Zora - you realize you just bashed Cheney and then immediately said we should focus on the positive. Nice.

By Jason Yang , Posted January 22, 2009 1:37 PM
  • Who cares what the gigantic and hideous woman who walks like a line backer was wearing. Yes, it was a hideous outfit the color of snot. It's quite clear that all the liberals will make a big fuss about her clothing choices, after all she is the Messiah's wife so she must be holy and pristine at all times no matter how hideous the outfit. It's just typical of the left to criticize everyone one else but when it comes to one of them, they are as hypocritical as those who they elect.

    By annoyed , Posted January 22, 2009 1:43 PM
  • Way too complicated. I copied and pasted that spell-checked previous message twice. Time to take a nap!. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

By Chaos Theorist , Posted January 22, 2009 1:58 PM
  • Only Media is making tooooo much of Michelle Obama's fashion choices, not people.

    By Immigrant , Posted January 22, 2009 2:06 PM
  • Drawing attention to one's self is not becoming. In the spirit of Abraham Lincoln, perhaps the Dear Leader's wife should take fashion cues from Mary Todd.

By another person , Posted January 22, 2009 2:10 PM
  • Is it supposed to be surprising that discussion of the Obamas on any point is one of style over substance?

By Just wonderin' , Posted January 22, 2009 2:24 PM
  • Her outfit was a choice??? Yikes. I'd assumed she'd been blackmailed into wearing that garish ensemble

By Bosnian Sniper , Posted January 22, 2009 2:29 PM
  • It's better than listening to the Obamamaniacs going on and on about the splendid new clothes of her husband, the Emperor.

    By 57th State , Posted January 22, 2009 2:37 PM
  • I like the name 57th State, illuding to when during the election Obama said that he had been to 57 states so far. What do you mean the new clothes of the Emperor? The Emperors new clothes were his birthday suit. Thank the Lord that Obama wears clothes. The preplanned pictures of him in Hawaii at the beach almost made me lose my lunch.

    By Anonymous , Posted January 22, 2009 3:00 PM
  • I think some have taken it too far, but little girls need more role models that aren't a size 0.

    By Black , Posted January 22, 2009 3:23 PM
  • Judging by the clownsuit she wore for inauguration, I think other people need to make even more of of Michele Obama's fashion choices. She's clearly incapable of making them for herself.

    By Rimshot , Posted January 22, 2009 3:43 PM
  • Good point, Immigrant. Media is clearly not composed of people.

    By Durr , Posted January 22, 2009 3:46 PM
  • Better question is why are people not making more of the $40 million dropped on the coronation? Seems like there might be a way or two in which that money could have been better spent.

    By BaDum , Posted January 22, 2009 3:50 PM
  • What should people be talking about instead? The stock market tanking immediately after his speech? The audience members climbing on statues? The dozens of tons of trash left on the Mall?

    By Baracket , Posted January 22, 2009 3:59 PM
  • BaDum,
Try three times the $40 million spent. If I remember correctly, that is what was the entire cost of Bush's inauguration, but Obama's was close to $140 million. Socialist Obama could have given each American 50 cents with all that money that he spent on himself.

  • So they put lipstick on a pig...so what.

    By Anonymous , Posted January 22, 2009 4:31 PM
  • OK, it's settled. Michelle will make her own clothes from left over flour sacks from the White Hiouse kitchen-bakery. This will gratify conservatives because it is thrifty. And liberals because it has a proletarian image. But she will not like it because it has a share-cropper image or even a plantation-slavery one. But if you want to be in politics, you have to make an ass of yourself, whatever your race or ethnicity. That is the essence of democracy!
