Little Cornwallis Island

Little Cornwallis Island lies within the narrow, island-studded, Queen's Channel-McDougall Sound region that separates the larger islands of Cornwallis and Bathurst from one another. Cornwallis Island lies to the east, 5.4 km across the Pullen Strait section of the McDougall Sound. (The Marshall Peninsula of Cornwallis Island is just 3.5 km from the southeastern tip of Little Cornwallis.) To the west, 8.5 km across the Crozier Strait, is the narrow Gregory Peninsula of Bathurst Island.
Little Cornwallis Island has a highly irregular outline, comprising two distinct halves formed where Templeton Bay cuts deep into the southern coast. A narrow isthmus of less than 500 m in width connects the eastern half to the western half. The slightly smaller eastern side of island measures 22 km by 15 km, the west 27 km by 15.5 km; the total land area of the island is 412 km².
