Taking a cue from fashion week! Usually dishevelled Courtney Love looks put together in a chic leather trim mini dress

New York Fashion Week is in full swing at the moment.

And while she hasn't been seen in the front row at any of the big name shows, Courtney Love is putting her best fashionable foot forward in the Big Apple.

The usually dishevelled hell raiser looked well put together as she went shopping in the East Village with a mystery man today.

The 48-year-old was chic in a black short sleeve minidress with leather frill trim around the collar and sleeves.

She paired the attire with some brown leather brogues and a pair of cream-rimmed sunglasses.

Toting a blue leather ostrich-skin handbag, she puffed away on a cigarette as she chatted to her heavily tattooed male friend.

Today's turned out look is a good sign that hell-raising Courtney has perhaps relaxed and settled down after what can only be described as a dramatic few years.

Back in December 2009, Wendy O'Connor, late husband Kurt Cobain's mother, and Kimberly Dawn Cobain, his sister, were named temporary guardians of her daughter Frances Bean.

Frances Bean filed a restraining order, prohibiting Love from having any direct or indirect contact with her daughter.

In the order, she claimed that Love's haphazard life had led to the death of the family pets; the cat became entangled in Love's 'Etsy fabrics, boxes of paperwork, trash and other possessions,' according to the court papers, while the dog swallowed several of Love’s stash of prescription pills.

Frances even included her surviving dog Uncle Fester on the order so he would not fall victim to another accident.

However, the 20-year-old has been taking charge of her life recently, buying a new $1.8m Hollywood Hills home and getting engaged to rocker Isaiah Silva .

In August 2010 she became a millionaire overnight when she inherited a trust fund set up in her name following her father's death back in 1994.
