This is from that NV vignette Center Seat, yes?

That sequence with the 1701 leaving drydock and then going to warp has to be one of my all-time favorite Trek shots, ever. From the handcam/BSG-style exit to the way the POV tracks the ship, just brilliant. Funny episode too ;)

(just saw your name on the credits) Holy Lord man, is there anything you do that DOESN’T rock?

    Beautiful! :)

I’m finding myself starting to wonder how TOS would’ve looked if they’d been able to do the space VFX in the BSG/Firefly-style.

Hey, Thanks Syd! I’m proud of “Center Seat”! To hear you enjoyed that sequence feels great! Did you hear the BSG drums over the snap zoom? It had some great character moments too!

    Hey all,
What is “Center Seat” and where may I view it, if you please?

Oh my! What a lovely image. Love the paneling details on the Enterprise.

Mark, “Center Seat” is a short story that the ST New Voyages/Phase II group produced, I think maybe two years ago. You should be able to find it on their website, which is:

    http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/

If you can’t find it there, go to YouTube and type “Star Trek Center Seat” into the search bar.

All good, just found it on YouTube. Impressive.

I just noticed that some of the comm chatter you hear as the Enterprise leaves dock sounds a lot like it was taken from Space Mountain.

I forgot to mention, my congratulations go to Visual Effects Supervisor Max Rem, whoever you are….;)

Love the BSG camera work as shes leaving the dock, must admit, it looked pretty busy at that space station!

Suricata! Thanks friend! Next time you watch it, listen for the BSG drums over the snap zoom, winking at the audience.

“Center Seat” was fantastic! I was always impressed at the sequence of the Big E leaving the dock. I’m going to have to rewatch it now because I think I missed the drums on the snap zoom.

This Picture brings Tears to my Eyes.
This is the Enterprise. Not that big Monster they have done for JJ.

“Center Seat” was great. Good to know that you were involved in that Show too, Doug.
You really should come to a FedCon in Germany someday.
The more i see on this Side, the more i want to see. ^^

Speaking of TOS ships, do you still have anything from the externals of the Defiant from those Enterprise episodes? Like the ship going to warp?

“Center Seat” was very impressive. That classic feel with that CGI greatness. :D

Seeing beautiful stuff like this makes me mind the recession, terrorism, nuclear proliferation, pandemics, and global climate change just a little bit less.

Drexler eases the pain … aaahhhhhhh …

Oooh! some 1701 goodness! :D thank you very much. 8)

      >>If this keeps up, my eyes are going to suffer from pupil decay.<<

Brush and floss them twice a day, with visits to the drex files.

Haha, very subtle with those drums, nice little touch. the workbee passing just before the zoom out could almost of been a cylon raider :-D

  23. May 24, 2009 at 4:05 pm

that ion pod looks loose..ben? are you in there? ;)

    just saw the cgi version….

    love the cogsley.

Eyes are brushed and flossed…ready for the drexfiles treatment!

That Center Seat was a great fun. I definitely like the look as she leaves the dock; a lot of great traffic. :)

Scott: That classic feel with that CGI greatness. — I couldn’t agree with you more!

Doug: Thus watched it again! I’ve only started watching BSG very recently, so the drums went totally under my radar (or over my head) the 50 or so times I’ve seen Center Seat before.

What were your duties on that episode? I assume the modelling’s all Drex-work, but were you setting up the shots, directing, anything like that?

I love “Center Seat” and practically everything about it, not the least because I was lucky enough to have assisted on the shoot for it. Thanks for these images, Mr. D.

I admit that from this angle the engineering hull looks a bit clumsy. The reason is that the perspective turns the tapered hull, as seen from the “wrong” side, into what looks like a simple tube. A simple optical illusion, actually. But a great image regardless!
