Date completed: July 2011

Profile: Apogee Stadium is a college football arena home to the North Texas Mean Green football team (Sun Belt Conference). It’s part of the Mean Green Village, a collection of athletic facilities on the University’s campus. Billed as the first new stadium to achieve LEED Platinum certification, the stadium can hold up to 30,850 fans. The layout includes 21 luxury suites, a press box, Club Lounge, ticketing booths, concession stands, team stores, restrooms and LED display boards. In addition to hosting UNT events, it will serve the community as a venue for concerts, competitions, high school games, and local events.

Energy-saving strategy: The creative design team worked closely with the UNT System, the construction team, and North Texas Athletics to achieve the ambitious goal. The high-performing arena utilizes energy-efficient HVAC and lighting systems to reduce energy consumption by 25 percent.  Three wind turbines are expected to generate approximately half a million kilowatt hours per year for the UNT power grid. Seventy-five percent of construction waste was recycled. Local and recycled-content materials were used in the construction of the stadium and a high percentage of fly ash was substituted for cement.

Keywords:

The stadium is located at the University of North Texas, not the University of Texas as previously stated. 2011-12-20 10:18:16 EST
