Hi folks

You probably noticed the guest book is missing from the menu bar.

With exactly 147 requests for new guestbook posts ( all from spammers)  it was getting a bit overwhelming for me and my email inbox to process.

I’ll wait a while and reinstall the guest book feature again in the near future.

You can still leave comments in the posts, but you have to be logged in to do so.

Hi Im Garth ve1jax (one of this sites Admininistrators) and I would like to welcome you to the new Yarmouth Amateur Radio Club website.

This website is designed as a custom Word Press blog style website with all the bells and whistles that should make this site interesting.

How it works.

First you need to register (please use your callsign as your username)  please use lowercase letters.

Please keep your “screen name” the same as your “user name”  (your screen name should also be all lower case letters) , this is the Yarmouth Amateur Rado Club site and everyone knows you as your callsign.

As a paid club member you will have “Author” status and be able to post and edit your own entries.*

Please take a few moments to study the website tools.  As you can see, you may customize any entry.  Post what ever you like ie: editorials, posters, artwork, items for sale, log book entries (word and excel files work great with this software), post links to upcoming events,  announce meetings in the calendar, have links your own website, show off your video.  Tell the amateur radio world about your ham station or post a link to a funny Ham story on Youtube!

As the website grows we will be adding more categories (see the right sidebar) and are looking to you for suggestions to expand this new website.

Questions or Comments!

Write me, call me or just stop in.

Thank you

2012 Acadian Games

Author: ve1gm

Yarmouth A.R.C. Assists With 2012 Acadian Games

In late 2011 the Yarmouth A.R.C. was approached by the organizing committee for the Acadian Games (Les Jeux de l’Acadie) in connection with radio communications for the games which were to be held in late June and early July of 2012. More than 1100 young athletes and their support people were expected to take part. After meeting with the committee and learning just what would be required, several  club members volunteered to assist. The volunteers were Bernie VE1UT, Max VE1IC, Claude VE1CB, Dave VE1JC, Claude VE1CD, Glenn VE1GBD  and Dave VE1GM.  After the organizing committee arranged for insurance against loss or damage, the radios and associated equipment were provided on loan from the RCMP. They were delivered to the club’s meeting place two days before the start of the games. That gave us time to charge the batteries and install one in each of the 70 hand-held radios. We then met with the end users and explained the operation of the radios and issued them to the users. The events were held at about 10 different venues and the radios were used at those venues plus at a central coordinating location. Club members looked after issuing additional radios and replacing and recharging depleted batteries at the central location.

The weather was ideal for the entire weekend and the games were a great success. One day after the games ended, all the equipment had been returned and was packed and taken to our club’s meeting place and on the following day it was returned to the RCMP. In all, 70 hand-helds, 70 lapel mics, 140 batteries, twelve 6-gang chargers and 2 TMR base units were returned in good order. Nothing was lost or damaged.
