Precious cargo! Sandra Bullock looks effortlessly chic as she holds on tight to sweet son Louis at New York's JFK airport

In her new movie, Gravity, Sandra Bullock is literally out of this world.

But when she's not flying in space, the star proves she's as down-to-earth as they come.

The star showed her motherly love for son Louis as she carried him protectively through JFK airport on Friday, looking just like any regular mom in her classic yet oh-so-stylish ensemble of a simple white T-shirt, black pants, a cropped blazer and ankle boots.

But with one difference: she just happens to be one of Hollywood's biggest stars.

Not that three-year-old Louis understands or even cares about his mom's superstar status.

The toddler looked cool and comfy in his jeans, long-sleeved grey top and fun colourful sneakers as he hitched a ride on Sandra's hip.

Throwing herself wholeheartedly into motherhood, Sandra has been pacing herself on the movie front since taking home her first Oscar for The Blind Side in 2009.

The actress appeared in a supporting role in the emotional drama Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close last year with Tom Hanks, then took a hiatus, with no movies released in 2012, before putting on her comedy hat for Paul Fieg's The Heat alongside Melissa McCarthy.

Tight bond: The single mom and her son are practically inseparable, with the actress even arranging her work schedule in order to take him on the daily school run

While George saw his movie Argo - which he produced with star Ben Affleck - receive a number of gongs at this year's Academy Awards.

Gravity sees George and Sandra starring as two astronauts stranded in space after being battered by the floating debris from a destroyed Russian satellite that has ruined their shuttle.

Bullock plays medical engineer Stone, to Clooney's veteran astronaut Kowalsky, as the pair navigate their way across the void of space to reach the international space station and their only chance of salvation.

Kid-friendly: Next up, the 49-year-old is voicing the character of Scarlett Overkill in new animation Minions - a spin-off of the popular Despicable Me films

In an interview with NPR, Sandra said that she spent a lot of her time on set was spent inside a cube, where she had to do a kind of modern dance to help create the illusion of zero-gravity.

'I likened it to Martha Graham,' she said. 'It was slow, modern, interpretive movements at 30 per cent speed. And so my body would move as in weightlessness and contract the way your body would move in zero gravity.'
