PICTURED: Anna Wintour sitting in the SECOND ROW at Valentino show at Paris Fashion Week

Anna Wintour is at the very top of the fashion industry food chain, with most designers willing to bend over backwards to please her.

So it's understandable that the fashion ranks were disturbed to witness the Vogue editor-in-chief sitting on the second row at the Valentino show at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday.

In a picture posted by fashion blogger Linah Hashmi, the 64-year-old fashion maven perches on the row behind her second-in-command, Vogue creative director Grace Coddington, who clutches a journal, ready to take notes.

According to Fashionista, Ms Wintour may have sacrificed her front row seat voluntarily for Sarah Mower, who reviewed the show for Vogue.com, when the venue became too crowded.

Indeed, this theory would explain why the pair seem to be chatting in the picture. Hamish Bowles, the European editor-at-large for American Vogue, was also seated on the second row.

While many theorized that Ms Wintour had given her seat to Ms Mower, blogger BryanBoy gave his own version of events, presumably from the his position at the show.

'Anna Wintour: badass,' he tweeted. 'Tight seating at Valentino, not enough space on the front row so she let her Editors sit front while she sat second.'

In a second tweet minutes later, he wrote: 'PR folks asked her to move to front and she didn't budge. Respect.'

While Ms Wintour watched the show from the second row, American socialite and former reality star Olivia Palermo, a close friend of Valentino himself, took in the designs from the very front.

Indeed, the newly-engaged 28-year-old was pictured sitting just three seats away from the Italian designer.

Russian fashion editor Miroslava Duma and Vogue Japan editor Anna Dello Russo also watched from the front row.

Just two weeks ago, Ms Wintour was pictured sitting next to up-and-coming model Kendall Jenner, 18, at the Topshop Unique show at London Fashion Week.

On her other side was Sir Philip Green, CEO of Arcadia Group, the company that owns Topshop.

Wow, these are the first few pictures I've seen in QUITE a while with her smiling and without those hideous sunglasses. She looks better. Now if we can only get her to wear tasteful clothing!
