Like a lot of young people, she was reportedly apprehensive about leaving home.

But seven months after landing a position with a New York-based auction house, it looks as though Princess Eugenie has settled into the city - and her job - well.

On Friday the British royal was spotted walking with two friends in the East Village neighbourhood.

Eugenie, who is the second child and younger daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York, was smiling happily as she chatted to her pals.

The 23-year-old looked chic in layers to keep warm on what was obviously a  chilly day, even though the snow that had blanketed New York for some weeks had thawed.

She wore a large black parka with a fur-trimmed hood over a light blue jacket and a black jumper. The princess showed off her legs in a black leather miniskirt, black opaque tights and matching low-heeled booties.

As a last touch, she wrapped a grey scarf around her neck.

The redhead tucked her bobbed tresses behind her ears and didn't appear to have any makeup on.

Eugenie has been benefit auctions manager at online auction house Paddle8, based in LIttle Italy, since September and has moved into a stylish apartment in the trendy Meatpacking District of Manhattan.

Friends say she was initially apprehensive about the move because she had few close friends in New York, aside from British model and socialite Poppy Delevingne.

But she has been making the most of her time in the city lately and recently appeared on the front row of the Nonoo Fall Show 2014 at New York Fashion Week last month.

The young royal also travels back and forth between the Big Apple and London to see her family and beloved boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, 27, who she has been dating for three-and-a-half years.

The son of an accountant, Jack was educated at  £10,000-a-term Stowe school in Buckinghamshire and at one point considered a career in the City. But, with the support of his parents, he chose to work in hospitality.

The couple were introduced by friends  during a skiing holiday to Verbier in Switzerland.

‘There was an immediate attraction and since that meeting, they have barely been apart,’ recalled one.

‘Eugenie was studying at Newcastle when they met and Jack was working in London, but they made the relationship work.

‘She is very uncomplicated. She’s a doer, a worker, as is Jack. They are very suited,’ she said.

By "landing a position with a New York-based auction house" you actually mean was given a cushy job by a family friend. Right?

How did she get a visa to live and work in the USA? It is hardly a job nobody else could do and they had to import a highly accomplished person into the Country to fill this essential vacancy. It couldn't possibly be because she is a member of the Royal Family and rules somehow don't seem to apply to them?

At least she's doing something unlike Beatrice who seems to spend her time holidaying with her boyfriend or mother.
