Coming Soon to Winnipeg! DATA DANCE: LEVEL 2!
ON December 4th, 2010, Team 20XX (a collective of artists who work with the aesthetics and technology of game culture) held the first in a series of Pop-Up Arcade/ chiptune dance parties in Winnipeg. We called the Data Dance and it was a smashing success!!! So we figured it would be a great idea to do it again. And that we are. On Feb 5th, Team 20XX will be hosting Data Dance: Level 2. Once more we’ll be filling the Lo Pub with retro arcade cabinets, vintage consoles, demoing indie games all the while chiptune DJs and artists treat our ears to lofi dance music with 8 bit visuals accompanying them. We’re trying to amp it up a bit this time, as such, we’re bringing in our first ever out of town chiptune artist!!!! STARPILOT from the BitMasters Netlabel will be making the long journey from Ontario to Winnipeg to Rock the Gameboys. But that’s not all!!! Here’s the full line up of what’s happening.
IN THE POP UP ARCADE:
**NEW RETRO ARCADE CABINETS! (yup, we’ll have a whole row of cabinets different from the first DD, stay tuned!)
**THE WINNITRON 1000! (the greatest indie game machine ever made! Play games from indie developers from Winnipeg and beyond!)
**TRACK + FEEL! ( an indie NES program made by Partytime! Hexcellent from Austin, TX! move and dance on a classic NES powerpad to create 8 bit visuals!)
**THEY BLEED PIXELS! (by Toronto’s spooky squid games. They made the Cephalopods Cottage Defense game that was at Data Dance: Level 1!) and maybe even more by spooky squid!
**L4D NES! (Eric Ruth’s stellar demake of the famed zombie shooter Left 4 Dead, in all it’s 8bit glory!)
** MORE VINTAGE CONSOLES ( we had a SNES set up on the couch last time, we’re gonna bring some more vintage consoles for your playing pleasure!)
