In recent months, writer Erika Ritter has become a frequent visitor to the Marvin Gelber Study Centre, to study and copy prints and drawings that feature dogs. Her novel-in-progress is about a time-traveling artist who has mastered dogs as the chief subjects of his work. Ritter’s novel will further the investigations of the human-canine bond she began in her comic novel, The Hidden Life of Humans and has continued in her non-fiction book, The Dog by the Cradle, the Serpent Beneath. Some Paradoxes of Human-Animal Relationships. The author shares her discoveries about dogs and art in her own time-travels through works of Durer, Hogarth, Curnoe, Colville and others.
