Elections fail to find winner
Published at 01:00, Friday, 05 May 2006
THE scene is set for a power struggle on Carlisle City Council after yesterday’s election results left no one party in overall control.
The Liberal Democrats are celebrating victory in Dalston, which they took from the Conservatives.
But no other seats changed hands as Labour defied predictions of losses by holding off the Conservative challenge in Belle Vue and Yewdale.
The results leave Labour as the largest party.
There were no elections in Allerdale, Copeland or Eden.
Nationally, it was a bad night for Labour, which lost more than 250 council seats.
