Joan Collins proves she can cut a rug with the best of them in a blazer and pointed heels as she attends theatre bash

She recently made her debut in new British drama Royals to shake a few things up.

But veteran actress Joan Collins was proving she could still shake a few things pretty well on the dance floor on Tuesday night as she let her hair down in London.

The 81-year-old was pictured enjoying a dance at a party for the reopening of Hammersmith's Lyric theatre Reuben Foundation Wing as she joined theatre-loving stars to see the renovation.

Joan looked timeless in a fitted satin skirt and pointed crystal-encrusted heels, which facilitated her sassy footwork on the night.

She looked youthful with striking red lips and her signature bouffant hairstyle as she layered on a black blazer with jazzy, sequinned lapels.

Though it was perhaps her fishnet stockings that made her come over a little 'Moulin Rouge' on Tuesday, as she decided to show off some of her best moves.

The night was after all dedicated to musical theatre and saw young performers take on the classic Bugsy Malone to mark the revamp.

It drew attendance from stars including S Club 7's Hannah Spearritt, television presenter Gaby Roslin and on Joan's arm was of course, her husband Percy Gibson.

Dynasty star Joan, who most recently played The Queen's Mother in E!'s Royals, was recently honoured by the Queen as she was this year made a dame.

A testament to her youthful nature, Joan was already planning the party ahead of the presentation on Sunday, nonetheless.

Joan recently admitted that she was 'so thrilled' to have been received the honour investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace that she couldn't wait to celebrate with a big bash that night.

When asked how she will commemorate the achievement, she said: 'I've got a load of people waiting for me right now and I'm having a huge party tonight.

'I'm so thrilled. It is extraordinary. It's something I never, ever would've expected. I'm terribly, terribly honoured. I really am. And I hope I can live up to what being a dame means.'

Despite receiving her new title, the actress insisted that she won't ever ask any of her friends or family to refer to her as Dame Joan.

She explained: 'I will not ask anybody. If they choose to call me Dame Joan I will be delighted. But people will still call me Joan.'

The Royals star - who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1983 - trained to be an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London but admits she didn't become a TV and movie star in the hope of one day being a dame.

Speaking to ITV News, she added: 'When you go to RADA becoming a dame or a knight or getting any kind of award is not something that is expected.

'You're expected to go to learn how to be an actor or an actress and learn to be good enough so that you can make a living for the rest of your life.

'Becoming a dame or a knight is not on the curriculum.'
