Did you really think Batman would allow a room full of DC supervillains to get together without him having a say about it?

The Dark Knight looks to make a surprise appearance in Suicide Squad after Ben Affleck was spotted on set in Toronto on Monday.

The 42-year-old looked very casual as he arrived Hy's Steakhouse wearing boots and slacks, a puffer jacket, red sweater, backpack and baseball cap.

But any suggestion this was merely a social visit were immediately quashed when the 42-year-old changed wardrobe into a very sharp looking Bruce Wayne-esque suit, shirt and tie.

Suicide Squad is about the team of comic book bad guys who are assembled by the government as a deniable asset to undergo extremely dangerous missions in return for reduced prison sentences - which partially explains why so many super villains are free to roam the streets in a universe populated by superheroes.

This upcoming incarnation includes among its members The Joker, played by Jared Leto; his on/off girlfriend Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie; and ruthless assassin Deadshot, played by Will Smith.

Joel Kinnaman will play mercenary Rick Flagg and Viola Davis stars as military genius Amanda Waller, while fellow baddies Captain Boomerang, Enchantress, Killer Croc, King Shark, Plastique and Slipknot have all also joined the roster.

But until Monday, it had no one knew how these bad guys were going to be kept in check.

It appears DC is following the very successful crossover model being enjoyed by its comic publishing rival Marvel, which has enjoyed enormous box office success having superheros wander into each other's films.

Indeed hot on the heels of the Superman reboot Man Of Steel, fans are now eagerly awaiting Henry Cavill's face off against Ben Affleck in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Affleck originally faced backlash after he was cast as the new Caped Crusader back in 2013, similar to what Heath Ledger faced when he was first announced as the Joker in Christopher Nolan's epic sequel.

And the new Joker, Jared Leto, has been getting a taste of acerbic fanboy reaction when he posed for a promotional still as the clown prince covered in tattoos. It was later revealed the image was merely celebrating the character's 75th anniversary, and that The Joker would not be inked up in the film.

During Ben's visit to the set, Will Smith stopped by his trailer as well as the producers', while Viola Davis was also spotted showing her daughter around.

You must be joking? Jared Leto received some flack from fanboys when the producers posted this pic of him covered in tattoos, but it turns out the ink was just for a promotional shot to celebrate the Clown Prince's 75th anniversary. So calm down!
