Alyssa Ramirez, 18, (left) was on her way home from high school prom in Devine, Texas on Saturday night when her car became stuck in rising waters and was swept away. Her body was found on Sunday. There were also fears for 12 people missing including a mother and her two young children who were swept away from their Texas vacation home during flash flooding on Sunday. Laura McComb, 33, and her children, Leighton, four, and six-year-old Andrew, (inset with her husband Jonathan) have been missing since Sunday when their vacation river home was swept away by the surging waters which reached triple their normal flooding level in Wimberley, Texas (right). Mr McComb survived the flooding and is being treated in hospital.

The senator's former wife, Rose Cochran, (ttop right) died in December at age 73 from dementia after living in a nursing home for 13 years. Tom Cruise is to play drug smuggler Barry Seal, a pilot from Baton Rouge, LA, who brought the Medellin cartel's cocaine to the USA then turned informer before being killed in 1986. Seal (right), from Baton Rouge, LA, was a brilliant pilot who by chance became the Colombian drug lords' key smuggler in the early 1980s. But he became the DEA's most crucial informant, telling them of the existence of the cartels. There are also claims he was secretly gun-running for the CIA's Iran-Contra program to bring down Communism in Nicaragua. His wife Debbie (inset, on one of his planes) still wants answers over his murder by hitmen who sprayed his white Cadillac with bullets. She tells Daily Mail Online: 'That last year of his life I remember Barry was afraid of the CIA, he said there was no place in the world where he could hide from them.' Mrs Seal is played by Sarah Wright Olsen (pictured left with Cruise).

Ruth and Leo Zanger of Illinois, recently welcomed their 100th grandchild. The couple has 12 children, 53 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The Zangers say they have to rent out a church hall for their family gatherings.

Gentry Eddings, a worship leader at Forest Hill Church in south Charlotte, was caravaning home with his wife Hadley and two-year-old son Dobbs (pictured together-right) on Saturday when they were rear-ended by a truck. Dobbs was killed in the crash and Hadley was forced into a premature labor, eight months into her pregnancy. She was rushed to hospital and delivered a son, Reed, by emergency c-section. The little boy is now in a critical condition. Over $50,000 has already been raised for the family using a Go Fund Me set by one of their friends.

The heart warming went around the world, making the Indian student, who is studying a business course, a reluctant and extremely humble hero. When New Zealand television network One News visited Mr Singh at his home in Auckland they discovered that he slept on a mattress on the floor and only had a couple of plastic garden chairs (bottom right) and a small plastic table in his lounge room. A local furniture store donated a table, couch and a bed to the struggling student, who was so overwhelmed by the gesture that he was reduced to tears (centre).

Lil' Bunny Sue Roux, who is known as Roux, has built up a 50,000-strong following on Instagram in just one month. The one-year-old cat was born without her front legs because of a congenital abnormality. She was adopted by New Orleans-based Jackie Deak Akey in October 2014, and has quickly learned how to cope with her disabilities, developing a unique bunny-style hope which she uses to get around.

Cecil Knutson, 79, Dianna Bedwell, 68, (pictured) were found near a Boy Scouts camp on the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation near Warner Springs, San Diego County, California. Knutson's body was near a white car and Bedwell was inside the vehicle, he said. They were last seen leaving the Valley View Casino in Valley Center, about 25 miles west of the wilderness camp, on May 10.

Remarkable pictures taken on safari in Kenya show a cowardly lion fleeing a herd of angry buffalo - by scrambling up a tree. Photographer Charles Comyn described seeing the lion scramble up the tree (pictured left) before beginning to slip down towards the furious buffalo waiting below. But in a last ditch effort to avoid being trampled, he fell from the tree with a snarl and fled across the savannah to safety (top and bottom right).

Dr Howard Schneider, 78 (left), voluntarily relinquished his license to practice dentistry in the state of Florida and was attacked at his office beforehand (right). Mother Brandi Motley put him in the spotlight after she posted on Facebook about him. Motley said Schneider wrongly removed seven teeth from her daughter's mouth. Lawyers say Medicaid paid him by the tooth for removal or capping teeth. He received nearly $4million in Medicaid reimbursements in the last five years. Dentist allegedly wore scary costumes and threatened children by telling them, 'your mom will die if you tell her what happened'. Schneider is the target of a class action lawsuit alleging he used his practice to physically abuse children and a medical malpractice suit too.

The 62-acre town in East Haddam was put up for auction in October, with the highest bid coming in at $1.9 million, however the offer has since fallen through. Now a group of people on Twitter, lead by Chicago-based writer and designer Dan Sinker, are trying to raise enough money to buy the deserted hamlet, which has an array of Victorian buildings, including an old post office, a schoolhouse, a general store (bottom right), the original homestead of the mill owners, and even an abandoned church. Travis Tolliver was stolen from his mother Nelly Reyes hours after his birth in Chile. She was told in 1973 that her newborn son had died of a heart condition. The mystery is still unsolved and he wound up being adopted by a Tacoma, Washington, couple. Mother and son (pictured both) were finally reunited via the Facebook page Chile Adoption Birth Family Search. The pair first met at Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago. They wordlessly embraced and held each other tightly for a very long time.

A tear-jerking new film created for the Argentina Foundation for Liver Transplants shows a day in the life of a man whose dog is his best friend. He wakes him up in the morning and follows him everywhere throughout the day (top left). But as they watch TV together one night the man becomes ill and is rushed to hospital. The dog races after the ambulance, and is shoo-ed away by hospital staff when he tries to follow his owner through the hospital doors (top right and bottom left). The distraught dog waits patiently outside the hospital for days, even when it is raining. Eventually, a young woman emerges (bottom right) and the dog jumps up as if he recognises her. 'Become an organ donor', the advert reads, and it is clear the man has died and the woman has received one of his organs.

Paddy, a four-year-old labrador-collie cross, used the manouevre to follow his owner Thomas McCormack to work one day from their house in Croy, north Lanarkshire. The four-year-old dog managed to trail behind Mr McCormack unnoticed to the train station and onto the carriage, taking a seat behind the 34-year-old as he made his way to work.

Victor Perez Cardona's dying wish was to be propped up in his cab for a final time before his burial. After he passed away from cancer aged 73, his daughter Generosa Perez fulfilled his desire by sitting him in his beloved taxi (inset) and inviting loved ones to come and bid her father a final, unusual farewell. On Sunday, hundreds of mourners stood and looked at Cardona (main), who had been a taxi driver for 15 years, at his wake in Aguas Buenos, Puerto Rico. Some even climbed into his taxi and sat in the passenger seat.
