'We couldn't make a deal!': Joy Behar reveals she was approached to return to The View but said no because they wouldn't give her 'power'

Joy Behar will not be returning to The View.

The 72-year-old comedian told Walker Vreeland in a WBAZ radio interview on Wednesday that she will not go back to the chat show for season 19 because talks with the show's producers went sour.

'They've come to me, and we couldn't make a deal,' the redhead said on air.

'They wouldn't really negotiate well enough for me,' the 16-year veteran of the morning show explained.

'I mean, if they were giving me a bigger role on the show, and giving me some power to actually make some changes and let them benefit from my expertise after being there for 16 years - but they're not going to do that. So why would I want to bang my head against the wall?'

Joy was one of the original five hosts when The View premiered in 1997, but she left the program in 2013.

'I'm not always sure why that happened, but I was ready to go,' she explained of her departure.

'I had had enough. I think that somebody - I can't mention names - made the decision to change the show for some reason. So Elizabeth Hasselbeck and I both had to leave.'

Joy did insist that her exit was 'a fairly mutual decision' - she has appeared as a guest host on a few more recent episodes.

She also made it clear that better timing and a better offer might entice her to return to The View: 'We'll see how it goes.'

Even without a return from Joy, major casting changes are in the works for ABC's long-running and sometimes controversial program.

Three of season 18's hosts - Rosie O'Donnell, Rosie Perez, and Nicole Wallace - will not return in the fall.

Whoopi Goldberg - who joined The View in season 11 - and new co-hosts Raven-Symone and Michelle Collins will therefore be joined by two new faces.

Recent reports have named actress Candace Cameron Bure and Good Morning America Weekend co-anchor Paula Faris as likely replacements.

Their roles will be supplemented by several correspondents, including Stacey London, Molly Sims, and former co-host Sherri Shepherd.
