    CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (Sept. 24, 2013) " Twenty-six million Americans have chronic kidney disease and dont even know it.  Mercy Dialysis-Cedar Rapids and the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) are joining forces to help people in eastern Iowa become more aware of the key risk factors for developing chronic kidney disease.  Some of those risk factors include diabetes and high blood pressure.

     

    Mercy, in partnership with the NKF, is hosting a free public awareness program at the hospitals Hallagan Education Center, 701 10th St. SE, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 6.

     

    The KEEP Healthy event includes a kidney health risk survey, body mass index (BMI) measurement, blood pressure check, free educational materials and an opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional. The program is designed to help participants become more familiar with key risk factors, and to gauge their individual risks for developing chronic kidney disease.
