Here comes the first day of school!

Nine-year-old Alana Thompson - better known by TLC fans as Honey Boo Boo - said goodbye to summer vacation and hello to her first day of school on Monday morning.

But don't think she's sad to see the summer go. Her mother, Mama June, shared on Facebook this morning that the newly-initiated fifth grader woke up every hour on the hour from 4am, because she couldn't wait for the day to start.

The mini reality star posed for photos with her big sister, 15-year-old Lauryn 'Pumpkin' Shannon, who started the ninth grade today. The two wore matching shirts and happily smiled for the camera as they prepared to head back to school.

'First day of school [and] they was [so] excited,' the double-frame picture, which earned more than 3,000 likes in four hours, was captioned. 'I just hope [Lauryn] has a great [day] and Alana does well too.’

'I hope Hampton High and Mt. Carmel Elementary is ready for these two firecrackers [sic],' she added.

The set of smiley snaps were shared on Honey Boo Boo's Facebook page, along with another photo showcasing the precocious grade-schooler's new gear.

Alana proudly held up a pink backpack and lunch bag, both of which were monogrammed with her first name.

But while the first day back was undoubtedly exciting for Honey Boo Boo, Mama June noted that it was much more of a milestone event for Pumpkin.

This is the teenager's first day at school since January of 2014, when a car accident sent her to the hospital and left her with brain injury. Her father, Sugar Bear, had been driving when he made an unsafe left turn in front of an oncoming truck.

Pumpkin has been struggling with her recovery and still finds herself confused in places with 'lots of commotion', like Walmart - so attending high school will certainly be a challenge.

'She is so excited but I know just like me is scared of what can happen,' Mama June wrote in a post last night.

'She is very smart and wants to prove [wrong] everyone that told her she would never [be] able to go back [to] school,' she continued. 'Anyone who has ever met Pumpkin knows she [is] very outgoing [and] headstrong... and this has been one thing that has [been] bothering her as she is a social butterfly BIG TIME [sic].'

The 'proud parent' was thrilled to send her daughter back to class, adding that she was 'sending her good vibes'.
