'Tip top terrific!' Bindi Irwin gives Dancing With The Stars partner Derek Hough a lesson in Australian slang

Her late father Steve Irwin was a bona fide Australian icon.

And the apple doesn't fall far from the tree for Bindi Irwin.

The effervescent 17-year-old is gearing up to compete on the US Dancing With The Stars, and while her partner Derek Hough is teaching her some new moves on the dance floor, Bindi is repaying the favour by teaching him some Aussie slang.

The teenager posted an adorable video of the pair on Friday, as they took a break from their rehearsals to put the shoe on the other foot.

Bindi took on the role of teacher, wearing her trademark wide grin as she pronounced a number of her favourite Aussie words and phrases.

Her American counterpart then attempted to mimic her vocabulary, as well as her accent.

The first word Bindi put forward to her partner was her dad's favourite greeting, 'G'Day,' which he repeated with a surprising natural ease.

Bindi then asked Derek: 'Do you bonzer mate?' which he reiterated with a slight American twang.

The Wildlife Warrior then said in her most enthusiastic voice: 'How ya going?!' which Derek copied back.

The young starlet appeared to be pleased with Derek's efforts, as she went on to praise him with another favourite Australian phrase: 'Tip top terrific!!'

Obviously satisfied with her teaching skills, Bindi also congratulated her new Australian protégé on Instagram.

'It's official #TeamCrikey @derekhough doing an absolutely fantastic Aussie accent! I'm so proud!' she captioned the short clip.

However Derek appeared to be not so pleased with his attempt, also sharing the clip to Instagram.

'@bindisueirwin trying to teach me some Aussie lingo and I'm failing miserably!' he wrote.

The teenager appeared on Good Morning America earlier in the week and admitted her imminent appearance on Dancing With The Stars will take her out of her comfort zone.

'I'm not used to any of this,' she said. 'I'm used to crocodiles so crocodiles are way less scary. You kind of know how they work. The judges? You don't know what they're going to say.'

Elsewhere, the teenager's professional dance partner credited her positive attitude with invigorating him as he prepares to compete in his 16th season.

'I love her. She's amazing,' the 31-year-old told People magazine. 'She's a breath of fresh air. We all need a little Bindi in our life. Seriously.'

'I'm in this space right now where I'm super pumped on life right now. I feel connected. I feel great. And then she walks in my life. You don't understand what positive energy she is.'

Bindi herself told People: 'This is going to be more terrifying than jumping on top of a crocodile. Crocodiles, they are very special because they are modern-day dinosaurs.

'But I've kind of worked with them my whole life, whereas I've never danced before in my life.'

The other stars set to join Bindi on the show include Chaka Khan, Kim Zolciak, Nick Carter, Paula Deen, Alexa Penavega, Andy Grammer, Hayese Grier, Victor Espinoza and Carlos Penavega.
