The night mortified Mourinho became an ordinary dad: Why the Special One just can't say no to 18-year-old daughter Matilde... even when she's wearing an eye-popping dress

  • Matilde Mourinho finished school in June and wants to work in fashion
  • The teen stole the show at the GQ Awards last night in a daring dress
  • Father José says she and her mother are 'the bosses' at their home
  • He also admitted that he only came to the ceremony because of Mathilde

He's one of the hard men of football with a reputation for getting exactly what he wants.

But it appears that there is one person that has José Mourinho wrapped around her stylish little finger - his 18-year-old daughter Matilde.

And while many fathers would have refused to let their little girl leave the house in the eye-popping designer dress she wore to the GQ Awards on Tuesday, the Special One appears to have given in - all-be-it with ill grace and a grimace.

Mourinho, 52, even admitted that he would not have gone to the glitzy awards do in London - but was talked in to it by his headstrong oldest daughter.

Last night's showstopping appearance is just another sign of the manager's all-failing devotion to his girl.

In fact the scourge of Stamford Bridge also revealed that it his wife and daughter who rule the roost in his home, telling the Big Issue magazine that the two 'are the bosses and control everything in our house'.

'My wife and my son and my daughter have the biggest influence on me, that’s for sure,' he said during the interview.

'And why? Because they are the bosses and control everything in the house!

'And in relation to my job they don’t try to influence me but at the end of the day they have a big influence because when it comes to make big decisions – where to go, where to work, when to change – on this kind of thing they have a big influence on me.'

For all the attention they get, her father, who has made no secret of his staunch Catholic faith, has said he is happy to have his family back in Britain because of the extra privacy available.

Matilde is the eldest child of 52-year-old Mourinho and his wife Mathilde, who met as teenagers in Setúbal, a suburb of Lisbon. She has a younger brother named José Mário Jr, 15.

The children have already lived in Portugal, Italy and Spain as well as the UK and Matilde has spent much of her childhood in Belgravia during her father's first stint at Chelsea.

Now he is taking every opportunity to spend time with them. Last December, Matilde joined Mr Mourinho and his wife at the Victoria's Secret fashion show in London's Earl's Court.

The same year, the whole family were seen strutting their stuff on the red carpet at the première of the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 in Leicester Square.

'A good night for me is to have a nice dinner with my wife and son and daughter,' added Mr Mourinho in the same interview.

'Obviously, now [the children] are getting older and they are starting to have their lives and they have their friends also, so at this moment with school, football, university – we cannot be like before with lunch and dinner together every day.

'So now is different, so a good night for me is to enjoy them and have a good meal and after that spend time with my family.'

Taking the opportunity for a night out with his little girl, the famously stylish Mourinho had made an effort for the GQ ceremony and cut a handsome figure in a tailored two-piece suit, teamed with a bow-tie and crisp white shirt.

The father and daughter duo were joined at the A-list bash by a host of household sporting names including Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, Ashes hero Stuart Broad and former England legend-turned Match of the Day presenter, Gary Lineker.

And it seems her parents' starry social world has given Matilde a taste for the stylish side of showbiz.

After completing her final year at school, taking her exams in June, Mathilde now hopes to forge a career in fashion. Mourinho is supporting her 100 per cent.

Her ambitions were revealed by Mr Mourinho in a recent interview with Mr Porter, in which he also revealed his style rules - never be seen in anything but grey, blue, white and black.

The pair were among the last to arrive at the awards ceremony last and the teenager drew all eyes courtesy of a daring £2,145 velvet tuxedo dress by Balmain - a French label adored by the Kardashians among others.

And like the famous reality TV family, Tita - as she's known to her family - chose the red carpet moment to reveal as much skin as she could, while her father stood stone-faced beside her.

Yet, the confidence behind her choice of gown is also what is making her an increasingly familiar face on the London social circuit.

She is a close friend of One Direction star Niall Horan ad the pair even sparked dating rumours when they were seen watching the football in the stands at Stamford Bridge earlier this year.

Days later, she and the boyband singer were spotted leaving a nightclub together - and doing their very best to avoid the attentions of waiting photographers.

However, a representative for Horan later scotched the rumours, telling MailOnline: 'They're not dating, they're just friends.'

Whatever lies in store for Matilde now, her father - who admits to praying for his family - will try to ensure her feet are on the ground.

Jose, who is a World Food Programme Ambassador Against Hunger, has taken his children to the Ivory Coast to witness the poverty there.

He and his wife also support a Catholic food programme in Setúbal. He said: 'But we have a principle that we do it not for people to know, or to promote our profile.

'We do it because we can, and we want our son and daughter to understand how privileged we are, and to understand that other people need support.'
