'I lost my temper': Professor Green breaks down in an emotionally charged interview as he recalls his final conversation with late father

He's just released his auto-biography, Lucky, which doesn't pull any punches when it comes to his formative years and rise to the top.

And Professor Green, 31, didn't hide his feelings when he candidly discussed the impact of his father's suicide on his life in an emotional interview on Thursday's This Morning.

During his chat with hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, the rapper - real name Stephen Manderson - broke down as he recalled the last heated exchange he had with his late father, Peter, just hours before he took his own life in 2008.

Recalling the last conversation the pair had, the rapper - real name Stephen Manderson - said: 'After my 18th birthday - that was the last time I saw him because we didn't talk for years. The year before he ended up taking his own life, I reached out to him just before Christmas.

'We were meant to meet the day after Boxing Day. I spoke to him on Boxing Day and he said that his wife and their children wanted to see me.'

Struggling to hold his emotions in check, he said: 'I lost my temper because it was not about playing happy families, it was about us being adults and talking about everything that happened.

The musician, who left school at 14 and was raised by his grandmother, explained that while he had tried to find some way to repair their fractured relationship he couldn't completely keep his anger in check.

Revealing the last words he spoke to his father, Pro said: 'He started to stutter. I had put myself on the line again - which is something I promised I wouldn't do - and I said, "If I ever see you again, I'll knock you out".

'I found out on the Wednesday morning when my Nan came into my room and told me that my dad had hung himself.'

Turning away from his dark reflections, the rapper remarked that talking about his troubled past has helped him to move on to a better place in his life.

He said: 'Well it helped me. I wasn't in a great place.'

However Pro does still harbour regrets from his father's tragic passing, saying: 'I just wish that I could have spoken to him.'

But while their relationship was not always happy, the NME award-winner showed that he still misses his father when he posted pictures of the pair of them to his Instagram profile in June.

On Wednesday, Pro revealed that he and wife of two years Millie Mackintosh have seen a therapist over issues in their marriage, and he reflected that talking to a professional has helped him immensely.

Citing his father's premature death as a catalyst for seeking some extra help, he told viewers: 'It means I have to take better care of myself - he was one of three brothers who are all dead.

'Yeah, when I get stressed my anxiety gets worse. My hypochondria airs its ugly head. I've seen a lot of my doctor recently but it has got a lot better.'

And the rapper revealed he is looking forward to raising his own children with Millie, 26, saying: 'I'm looking forward to the future and having my own family.'

Speaking of their relationship on the day that they celebrated their second wedding anniversary, he said: 'She is an eternal optimist... I err on the side of caution. We have the perfect balance.'
