Not up to your usual style! Sophie, Countess of couture swaps designer outfits for a hairnet and overalls on bakery visit

She's usually impeccably dressed, with a rakish hat adorning her blonde hair.

But today the Countess of Wessex was sporting a very different sort of ensemble as she visited a bakery in Wiltshire - one that Coronation Street's Hilda Ogden would be proud of.

Clad in a white overall worn over her floral printed dress teamed, Sophie, 50, topped her very practical look with a bright green hair net and blue foot coverings, and laughed her way through the royal visit at the Marshfield Bakery in Dyrham.

The countess arrived wearing a floral calf-length dress, grey heels and a blue blazer.

But in line with food safety standards, she scraped her hair blonde back and donned the protective clothing as she took a tour of the bakery. 

Joined by several members of staff, she witnessed the process from the production line and as she was leaving, was presented with a bouquet of cream and purple flowers.

The bakery - famous for its flapjacks - was founded in 1984 by farmhouse owners Paul and Lynne White, and sits in a small village.

Its sister location in Bath was opened by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall in 2008.

Sophie, the wife of Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, was recently listed as one of the most stylish women in the world on Vanity Fair’s International Best Dressed List. 

Her most notable ensemble of 2015 was judged to have been a striped silk-satin Emilia Wickstead dress and a custom Jane Taylor hat, worn at Royal Ascot.

Sophie's last public appearance was on August 31, when she attended the Unibet EuroHockey Championships in London with her 11-year-old daughter Lady Louise Windsor.

On this occasion, she wore a a £935 Peter Pilotto dress.

It was the Countess' first solo outing since July and only her second that month - the other being the VJ Day commemoration.

Like the rest of the royal family, the Earl and Countess of Wessex kept a low profile for much of August, spending some of their time at Balmoral with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.

The mother-of-two acts in support of The Queen and of her husband in his roles, and undertakes public duties for a large number of her own charities. 

She is particularly involved with charities relating to children, disabilities and communication problems.

Her Royal Highness is a also a keen sportswoman and enjoys walking, running, and riding. Other hobbies include sailing, tennis and reading.
