Buffalo Wild wings has announced they will no longer be airing commercials that feature Steve Rannazzisi.

This decision comes just one day after the star of FX's The League admitted that he had lied about being in one of the towers in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 when they were struck by two airplanes in a terror attack.

The actor had claimed in interviews that he pursued a career in entertainment as a result of what happened that day while he claimed to be working at Merrill Lynch’s offices on the 54th floor of the South Tower.

'Upon careful review, we have decided to discontinue airing our current television commercials featuring Steve Rannazzisi,' Buffalo Wild Wings said in a statement.

It is a giant blow for the restaurant chain, who had planned to use the actor in their new commercials which had just begun airing for the football season.

They had previously used the actor in their March Madness commercials earlier this year during the annual NCAA college basketball tournament.

The company did provide any other comment or say if they were terminating Rannazzisi's contract.

Rannazzisi only came clean about this lie - in which he also detailed having difficult dreams about what happened that day - when confronted by The New York Times.

The paper reached out to the actor after they could find no evidence that he had ever worked at Merrill Lynch, and after waiting an entire day he finally provided them with a statement.

'I was not at the Trade Center on that day. I don’t know why I said this. This was inexcusable. I am truly, truly sorry.'

He continued trying to explain his actions, saying; 'For many years, more than anything, I have wished that, with silence, I could somehow erase a story told by an immature young man.

'It only made me more ashamed. How could I tell my children to be honest when I hadn’t come clean about this?'

Rannazzisi, 37, refused to give the paper an interview or comment beyond that statement.

His actions drew the anger of many, including Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson who lost his firefighter father that day.

Davidson later said that Rannazzisi reached out to him and that he forgave him for his story.

'He reached out to me and is truly sorry. We all sometimes lie and exaggerate a story to seem cooler,' said the comedian.

Rannazzisi currently stars in the final season of The League which is airing now on FX.
