Modern Family's Sarah Hyland goes for glamour with a wine-coloured gown at the Emmy Awards

Sarah Hyland may have found fame playing a kid on the hit comedy, Modern Family, but her look was thoroughly sophisticated at the Emmy Awards.

When spotted on the red carpet on Sunday evening, the 24-year-old actress was stunning in a red wine-coloured, floor-length gown by Zac Posen.

Not even the hot Los Angeles weather at the awards ceremony could fade Sarah's sharp look.

The actress wore her dark-blonde hair loose in a shoulder-length bob, exactly the same length as her red-beaded, dangling earrings.

Without a necklace to detract from the dramatic collar of her dress, Sarah's shoulders were completely bare down to a horizontal swath of fabric across her chest.

Below that band, there was a tight and fitted bodice that hugged Sarah's waist before the skirt flared out at the knee and fell to the floor.

Sarah's back was nearly completely bare to the waist, thanks to the cut-away top of the dress.

Shoes invisible under her dress, Sarah accessorized with a bracelet worn at mid-arm and rings on several of her fingers.

When E! red carpet host Giuliana Rancic commented on Sarah's look, the actress stayed true to her comedy roots with a quick comeback: 'Thank you! I'm so sweaty!'

Even with the weather being that hot, Sarah was enthusiastic about being at the big awards show.

'I don't know why it wouldn't be special - it's the Emmys!' Sarah insisted. 'It's just so amazing to be here in itself. And it's film! Minus the weather.'

While Sarah herself is not a nominee for her Modern Family role of Haley Dunphy, she was a gorgeous representative of the show itself.

Modern Family was, of course, nominated for its sixth Emmy Award - in six years - for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Sarah's co-stars - and on-screen parents - Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen - were both nominated in their respective Supporting Acting categories.

Now back in production on the newest season of Modern Family, Sarah did not have a lot of time off over the summer.

She was in Toronto last month to film an upcoming movie, XOXO, and to spend time with her 25-year-old boyfriend, Dominic Sherwood, who was in the Canadian city to film The Mortal Instruments for ABC Family.
