Missing Sioux City Statue

SIOUX CITY, IA -

Sioux City Police still have no leads on the missing statue that used to sit on this downtown display.

All that’s left is a sign that says “stolen” and now police need your help, finding the Goddess of the Grapes. A bronze statue that stands at 18–inches tall.

But now, gone.

"It was missing on its base on 4th street, “ said Al Harris-Fernandez, Director of the Sioux City Art Center.

Harris-Fernandez said Shannon Sargent, the museum Exhibition Collections Coordinator, was on his weekly routine Tuesday, checking each fixture in downtown Sioux City, when he discovered the nearly $5,000 statue, wasn't there.

"He had noticed it was gone early yesterday and they reported it to the police and filed and number with them."

Harris-Fernandez said it’s been on display on 4th street since 2009.
It belongs to Sculpt Siouxland.

"It was always meant to be an outdoor sculpture for and the rest of the collection that sculpt owns. All those are outdoor artwork,” said Harris-Fernandez.

Local businesses owners told me, they did not see any suspicious activity since it went missing. Police are asking for public's help to be on the lookout.

"Please contact the art center or the police department and if somebody took it as a prank, please return it,” said Harris-Fernandez.

If you or someone you know has any information on its whereabouts, call the Sioux City Police Department at 712-279-6440.
