Florida police shoot suspected car thief 'who tried to drown a K-9 dog in a swamp and attacked officer during chase'

Police in Tampa, Florida, shot a suspected car thief who scuffled with an officer and tried to drown a police dog in a swamp overnight.

Officers captured two other suspects in the early morning hours. A fourth person, a woman, ran into a wooded area and was taken into custody several hours later.

According to investigators, the incident began around 2.30am when an officer pulled over an SUV in downtown Tampa, which turned out to be stolen.

A helicopter assisted officers on the ground in pursuit of the suspects, all of them teenagers. The vehicle stopped behind the First Presbyterian Church of Tampa near Humphrey Street and Grady Avenue, and the suspects fled on foot into a swampy area.

Two men were quickly captured. But officers and police dogs followed the other two into the woods. An officer shot one suspect after he allegedly attempted to drown a police dog in chest-deep water.

The suspect was taken to a hospital with what police described as life-threatening injuries.

The exterior of the home (top left) has gained attention for looking like a spaceship after Austin had it built in 2003 and features a roof that resembles a lily pad (bottom right). However, the interior of the home is also sleek, featuring a media room (top right) and a curvy design (bottom left) from architect Michael Czysz.
