Oksana Grigrorieva looks calm and collected as ex Mel Gibson faces four years in jail over assault allegations

Hollywood actor Mel Gibson could face four years in prison if found guilty of assault on ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

As Mel awaits the outcome of his fate, Oksana was looking calm and collected as she dropped her mother off at LAX airport yesterday.

Pushing Lucia, her one-year-old daughter with Gibson, the Russian singer-songwriter said her goodbyes to her mother with a warm embrace before making her way home from the airport.

And as her little girl snuggled behind a brown and pink blanket, the mother-of-one hid her eyes behind a pair of large oversized sunglasses.

Gibson, 55, could, if prosecuted by the Los Angeles District Attorney, face anything from one to four years behind bars after being accused of breaking two of Oksana’s teeth at their Malibu home in January last year.

Oksana claimed: 'I was scared for my life and for my daughter's. He punched me in the mouth, and the end of the blow brushed her chin.'

'I went to the kitchen to grab my keys and he's pulling a gun out of his shorts. I thought he would kill me.'

Gibson denies the allegations and his high-profile lawyer Blair Berk met with prosecutors on Tuesday in an attempt to resolve the case.

Russian singer Oksana has alleged that her former partner struck her as she carried their daughter Lucia, who at the time was just two months old.

The legal system in America means that a charge could be brought either as a felony or a misdemeanor with the former carrying a prison sentence of four years if Gibson is found guilty.

If convicted of a misdemeanor he could receive a one-year sentence in a county jail.

'Blair is aware that the District Attorney is inclined to file charges against Mel,' one source told website RadarOnline.

'The District Attorney has a very strong case, there is a lot of information that the public and Mel Gibson are unaware that the DA has.'

Grigorieva - who is the mother of Gibson's one-year-old daughter Lucia - has claimed that the actor punched her in the head on January 6 2010 during a row at his Malibu home, damaging two of her front teeth.

The Russian-born 40-year-old has also claimed she was holding Lucia in her arms at the time of the assault.

She  later said that she feared for her life during the alleged incident.

Grigorieva, who began dating the actor in 2007, left him after claiming that he had assaulted her.

In a sworn declaration Gibson - who is currently locked in a battle with Grigorieva over custody of Lucia - confessed to 'slapping' his ex-girlfriend once with an open hand.

However, he has denied hitting her with a closed fist, as she had claimed.

He claimed that he slapped her to 'bring her back to reality' after saying that she had become 'hysterical' during their argument.

'While I do not believe I handled the situation as well as I should have, I was worried about the rough way Oksana was shaking and tossing Lucia around,' he said in his statement.

'I did not slap her hard, I was just trying to shock her so that she would stop screaming, continuing shaking Lucia back and forth.

'I did not ever punch her in the face or in the temple or anywhere else, not then or at any other time.'
