Zayn Malik has been forced to pull out of a gig in Dubai next month due to his ongoing anxiety surrounding solo performances, it was revealed on Tuesday.

The former One Direction star was due to perform at the Autism Rocks Arena on 7 October however he revealed his crippling anxiety has forced him to withdraw from the performance as he is not 'sufficiently confident'.

Back in June, the 23-year-old pop star pulled out of playing the Capital Summertime Ball in London just 90 minutes before the show was due to kick off, as he was suffering the same issue - which he now explained is persisting.

Belting it out: Zayn Malik has been forced to pull out of a gig in Dubai next month due to his ongoing anxiety surrounding solo performances, it was revealed on Tuesday

Zayn announced his departure from One Direction in March last year after five years in the group, after which he released his chart-topping debut solo single Pillowtalk from his album Mind Of Mine.

While he has been inundated with praise for his solo work, Zayn - who has been dating supermodel Gigi Hadid, 21, since late 2015 - admitted he is struggling to work alone.

He revealed ahead of June's Summertime Ball: 'With the magnitude of the event I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.'

His fans were undoubtedly hopeful he has overcome the issue yet Zayn revealed in an announcement on Tuesday that he is still suffering.

The emotional post read: 'Dear Fans I have been working over the last three months to overcome my extreme anxiety around major live solo performances...

'I feel I am making progress but I have today acknowledged that I do not feel sufficiently confident to move forward with the planned show in Dubai in October.

'I am assured that all tickets will be refunded.I am truly sorry to disappoint you. I hope to see you all soon.Thank you to all my fans who support me globally.With love and respect always, Zayn.'

Organisers of the event threw their support behind the former boy band star as they penned: 'Whilst disappointed not to be hosting the planned Oct 7th. Dubai concert we appreciate Zayn’s honest apologies and wish him all the best for the future.'

After his failure to perform at the Summer Time Ball, he gave a similar explaination:'I cannot apologise enough.

'I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me, I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I've let down today.

'I know those who suffer anxiety will understand and I hope those who don't can empathises with my situation.'
