When it comes to hiring top models to show off her designs, Stella McCartney has her pick of the A-listers.

So it came as some surprise when she chose Ronnie Wood to became one of the first famous faces to showcase her hotly-anticipated menswear line.

The 69-year-old who recently became a father for the fifth - and sixth - time, was shot posing in one of her T-shirts and dapper jackets while cradling his twin baby daughters Gracie Jane and Alice Rose.

The Rolling Stones guitarist was reunited with his 'old pal' David Bailey, who took a series of black and white portraits of celebrities in Stella's new designs.

A fan of fashion since the Sixties, Ronnie wore a Stella McCartney jacket, $1,840 (£1,440) over an organic T shirt from the new line, with a price tag of $265 (£208).

In true rock god style he also accessorised with a $335 (£262) antique chain necklace, but kept his own pendant necklace on too.

The brave dad held his four-month-old twin daughters in his arms without putting them in nappies first, but fortunately the girls were on their best behaviour and seemed more interested in sleeping in front of the camera.

It was the first time the little girls have been shown off in public since Ronnie and his wife of four years Sally Humphreys debuted them shortly after their birth in June.

He already has son Jesse Wood, with his first wife and former model, Krissy Wood, daughter Leah and son Tyrone from his second marriage, to Jo, and Jamie, Jo Wood’s son from a previous marriage, whom Wood adopted.

Ronnie was joined by a range of stars in the Wall Street Journal shoot including Tom Daley and Professor Green, all captured in the stark images by the veteran Sixties photographer.

For many fashion fans, Stella's transition into menswear has come as a surprise. But for the designer herself, who used to spend her Central Saint Martins days in the Nineties hanging around with tailors in Savile Row, it's a natural progression.

The 45-year-old has also dabbled in menswear over the years, making a suit for David Bowie, shoes for Morrissey and a coat for Ronnie.

The rocker told WSJ:  'I saw her in a wonderful overcoat once, gray with pinstripes, and I said, "Oh, I love that,".

'She said, "Oh, this is my personal overcoat. I'll make you one".'

A year later he had forgotten about it until he saw her and she whipped out the overcoat and told him that she'd made one for her and one for her father, Paul.

But her official menswear line has been six years in the making.

The prices will also be similar with T-shirts starting at $245 (£192) and coats topping out at $2,155 (£1,690).

But for fans who are desperate to see the collection will have to wait until Stella's resort show in London on November 10 when the pieces will be unveiled and also go on sale.
