TV: 20th Annual Television Award Winners

Game_of_Thrones_S6 The winners for the 20th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.

The Americans was the top winner in the drama categories this year with a win in Best Drama Series. It also won the award for Best Actress for Keri Russell. Game of Thrones once again topped the awards tallies with 13 awards. It nearly swept the craft awards, winning all except Best Costume Design, which it lost to Empire. It also claimed awards for Best Supporting Actor (Peter Dinklage), Supporting Actress (Lena Headey), Guest Actor (Max von Sydow), Ensemble, Directing, and Writing. Best Actor in a Drama Series went to Rami Malek for Mr. Robot and Guest Actress was awarded to Ellen Burstyn for her performance on House of Cards. The Man in the High Castle took awards for Best Main Title Design and Best New Theme Song.

PeoplevOJSimpson The nominations for the 20th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.

Best Limited Series nominee The People v. O.J. Simpson earned seventeen nominations this year, the most nominated limited series of the season. Last year’s most nominated program, Game of Thrones, remained on top this year with eighteen (18) nominations, barely beating out The People v. O.J. Simpson.

Tied for third place in the nominations count, Best Limtied Series nominee Fargo and Drama Series nominee House of Cards, each have 16 nominations apiece. In fifth place is Limited Series nominee American Horror Story: Hotel with fifteen (15) citations followed by three programs with fourteen (14) nominations apiece: Best Comedy Series nominee The Big Bang Theory, Drama Series nominee Downton Abbey and Motion Picture nominee Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.

MadMaxFuryRoad The winners for the 20th Annual OFTA Film Awards have been announced.

The Online Film & Television Association has selected Mad Max: Fury Road as 2015’s best film. In addition, it was presented eight other prizes (not including the promotional material award, which are not part of the official vote totals since they are not a direct part of the moviemaking process). George Miller’s post-apocalyptic story is about a captured wanderer and the escaped female prisoners who search for a better life. The film was also honored for Best Director, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Stunt Coordination, Most Cinematic Moment, and Best Movie Poster, an award is shared with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

MadMaxFuryRoad The nominations for the 20th Annual OFTA Film awards were announced on Sunday, January 24, 2016.

Best Picture nominee Mad Max: Fury Road led the field of nominees with 13 followed by Carol with 10 nominations. The eight other films nominated for Best Picture are The Big Short , Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Inside Out, The Martian, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight. All five Best Director nominees were on this year’s Best Picture slate, the nominations going to Todd Haynes, Alejandro G. Inarritu, Tom McCarthy, George Miller and Ridley Scott.

The winners for the 19th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.

Mad Men, which went home with 7 awards this year, took home its 7th award for Best Drama Series, a record for this category. The series also won awards for Best Actor (Jon Hamm), Best Supporting Actress (Christina Hendricks), Best Ensemble, Best Direction, Best Writing and Best Editing in a Series. Game of Thrones may have lost Best Drama Series, but it tied for most awards this year with eight prizes, all of them in the creative categories except Jonathan Pryce earning the award for Best Guest Actor. The creative awards it won were for Best Music in a series, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, Best Sound and Beast Visual Effects, losing only Best Editing.

The nominations for the 19th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.

Best Drama Series nominee Game of Thrones earned the most nominations this year with 20, two more than it received last year. Following closely behind was American Horror Story: Freak Show, which secured 19 nominations.

The winners for the 19th Annual OFTA Film Awards have been announced.

The Online Film & Television Association has selected Birdman as 2014’s best film. In addition, it was presented five other prizes. Alejandros Gonzalez Inarritu’s single-take-simulated film follows the story of a washed-up actor, star of a huge superhero franchise, looking to rediscover his artistic roots by adapting a play on Broadway. The film was also honored for Best Actor (Michael Keaton), Best Ensemble, Best Casting, Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. Richard Linklater received the award for Boyhood. Filmed over a 12-year period, the film chronicled the coming of age of a young boy in a broken family. Linklater’s film received a total of four awards including the Best Director trophy.

The nominations for the 19th Annual OFTA Film awards were announced on Sunday, January 25, 2015.

Best Picture nominee The Grand Budapest Hotel led the field of nominees with 15 followed closely by Birdman with 14 nominations. The eight other films nominated for Best Picture are Boyhood, Foxcatcher, Gone Girl, The Imitation Game, A Most Violent Year, Nightcrawler, Selma and Whiplash. All five Best Director nominees were among this year’s Best Picture nominees, the nominations going to Wes Anderson, Ava DuVernay, David Fincher, Alejandro G. Inarritu and Richard Linklater.

The winners for the 18th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.

Mad Men, which went home with 3 awards this year, extended its reign as most honored series in OFTA history. The series won awards for Best Supporting Actress (Christina Hendricks), Best Guest Actor (Robert Morse) and Best Writing, all in the Drama Series categories. That record won’t hold for long as Game of Thrones was the year’s most honored program winning ten awards including a tie for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Peter Dinklage (who tied with Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul), Guest Actress for Diana Rigg (her second consecutive year winning this category for this program), Ensemble in a Drama Series, and seven of eight awards in the Series creative categories for Music, Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound and Visual Effects.

AmericanHorrorStoryCoven The nominations for the 18th Annual OFTA Television Awards have been announced.

Best Movie/Miniseries nominee American Horror Story: Coven topped this year’s nominations tallies with 19. This is the series’ second year in the limited series categories, two years ago, it competed in the regular series category where it was second-most nominated behind Mad Men.
