But Bastian Schweinsteiger, 32, looked to have no such problems off the pitch as his stunning wife Ana Ivanovic, 28, planted a loving kiss on his cheek as they stepped out for lunch in Hale, Manchester, on Wednesday.

The German superstar dressed down for his dinner date in a New York Yankees baseball cap, a navy jumper and matching trousers.

He added an extra layer with a white tee and he rounded things off with a pair of white trainers.

Ana wrapped a navy scarf around her neck and kept warm in a traditional cricketing jumper.

The Serbian sportswoman finished her outfit with a pair of ankle-length black trousers and a pair of white trainers.

Putting inter-city rivalry to one side, the couple met up with Manchester City's Aleksandar Kolarov and his wife.

They left their black Range Rover parked on the curbside and returned to find a parking ticket on the windscreen.

Ana and Bastian tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Venice in July of this year.

First, the couple had a non-religious service in the city's town hall, before having a second service inside the Misericordia Church.

The former Bayern Munich legend has endured a torrid time since joining Manchester United in 2015.

Signed by the club's previous manager Louis van Gaal, he remains part of new boss Jose Mourinho's 25-man Premier League squad, but he is unlikely to play for United again.

He last featured for United in their derby victory over City back in March, but having retired from international duty in September, it is not known when Schweinsteiger will be back in competitive action.
