'It's not possible to track her down': UK MP urges Lindsay Lohan to contact Kettering council after she promised to turn on their Christmas lights

She famously angered Brits during the Brexit vote in July after admitting she had no clue where the UK town of Kettering was.

Now the town's MP has called on the American actress to make good on her promise to turn on the Christmas lights after she failed to get back in contact.

The actress, 30, has been asked to contact the Northamptonshire town's officials after she was invited to switch on the festive display by local MP Philip Hollobone and Commons leader Chris Grayling to make up for her misguided comment in July.

Top job: Lindsay Lohan, 30, has been asked to contact the Northamptonshire town's council after she was invited to turn on the Kettering Christmas Lights by MP Philip Hollobone

The Mean Girls star agreed to switch on the festive display after receiving the personal request from the MP himself online.

Philip told BBC News:  'She said she would come and switch on the Christmas lights at Kettering but, despite everyone's best efforts, it's simply not been possible to track her down.

'She needs to know when and where she needs to be. The message is, 'Lindsay Lohan please get in touch, your public awaits.''

It's a big deal: The invite from the MP came after Lindsay tweeted on the night of Brexit that she did not know where the Northamptonshire town was

Promises: Lindsay later said she would 'be happy' to turn on the Christmas lights on Twitter after they addressed her disregard

A representative of Lindsay declined to comment to the BBC on whether she would be doing the honours, but asked fans and residents to 'stay tuned'.

The invite came after Lindsay was criticised by the MP on Twitter - after admitting to her followers that she did not know where Kettering is.

Taking to the social media site on the night of the UK's referendum, the redhead questioned: 'Sorry, but #KETTERING where are you & why is this woman speaking on people rather than TELLING us what happens if UK LEAVES?' (sic)

Man of the hour: MP Philip Hollobone invited the actress to take part in their annual event in order to 'redeem her political reputation'

Clearly not impressed with her disregard for the Midlands town, Philip scoffed to the House of Commons the following month: 'Apart from the fact it might be the most average town in the country, everyone knows where Kettering is.

'It's famous as the home of Weetabix breakfast cereal, Cheaney's and Loake's shoes, and Kettering Town football club has scored more goals in the history of the FA Cup than any other football team in the country.'

The Conservative party politician then invited the actress to take part in their annual event in order to 'redeem her political reputation' and 'raise money for good causes' - an offer she seemed to accept soon after.

Charitable: The actress' political viewpoints have become more prominent in recent weeks - having flown to Turkey and Greece last month to show her support for refugees

In the area! Lindsay was seen back in London on Thursday night in light of the MP's pleas

Summer spirit: Lindsay still appeared to be in the Greek frame of mind as she hit the streets of London in a soft flowing floral maxi dress

Glowing: The red-head looked healthier and happier than ever as she headed to Mark's Club, after a summer of endless sun-soaked breaks

Lindsay replied on Twitter: 'Direct message me about your offer. Would be happy to light the Christmas tree in #Kettering.'

The actress' political viewpoints have become more prominent in recent weeks - having flown to Turkey and Greece last month to show her support for refugees, and live-tweeting through Brexit night.

However despite turning her hand and head to the world's bigger issues, the Herbie actress is still retaining her trademark party-girl lifestyle.

The New York native has just opened a club in Athens with business partner Dennis Papageorgi - self-titled as the LOHAN nightclub.

Despite being spotted getting cosy on numerous occasions, the actress has furiously denied that the pair were romantically involved.

Grecian goddess: Lindsay has been in Greece recently as she opens and promotes her new club, LOHAN, in Athens
