Regina Tague hates that her son, Todd Kohlhepp, is called a serial killer, she told CBS for a '48 Hours' special airing on Saturday. 'I know that's what they say. He was very misunderstood,' she told CBS late Thursday. 'Todd is not a monster. He's not even close to it. He wasn't doing it for enjoyment. He was doing it because he was mad and he was hurt.' Kohlhepp was charged with kidnapping last week after investigators found 30-year-old Kala Brown, who had been missing for two months chained inside a metal storage container on his property in rural Woodruff, South Carolina. The men were captured by a soldier from the Iraqi Special Forces 2nd division as the crack troops swept through houses in the last remaining ISIS stronghold in Iraq.

Val Kilmer was struggling to speak on Thursday as he made his first public appearance since once again denying that he has throat cancer. The 56-year-old appeared at a screening of the film version of his play Citizen Twain in Los Angeles, where he told the crowd why he had to cancel his tour for the one-man show. 'I went into rehearsals down in Florida and started having trouble with my speech,' he said. 'Obviously I'm still recovering. My tongue swelled up and I canceled the tour. As I'm recovering I'm showing this.'

As the latest viral craze known as the mannequin challenge continues sweeping the web, this attempt made by children believed to be in the U.S. might be the most adorable yet. A group of four-year-old students held still, or at least tried to, while they were filmed taking part in the challenge. While the phenomenon consists of participants freezing in place while holding dramatic poses as if someone hit a pause button, these kids nearly got the idea. Robert Vaughn passed away on Friday at the age of 83 following a brief battle with acute leukemia. The beloved American actor, whose career stretched across six decades, was best known for his role as Napoleon Solo on the classic NBC series The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which ran for over 100 episodes from 1964 to 1968. Vaughn was also a regular on the big screen, starting off his career with an unaccredited role in The Ten Commandments before going on to land sup[porting roles in films such as The Magnificent Seven and The Young Philadelphians, for which he received an Academy Award nomination back in 1960 for Best Supporting Actor. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Linda Staab and their two children, son Cassidy and daughter Caitlin.

An Amber Alert was issued for seven-year-old Nia Eastman (left) on Wednesday, when her dad Adam Jay Eastman (right) failed to drop her off at her mom's house. Twelve hours later, the alert was called out when father and daughter were found dead. Police found Eastman dead from a suicide in a rural area near Smeaton, Canada around 5:30am Thursday morning. They later found his daughter dead in a home near her school. Before Nia's kidnapping and murder , Eastman posted an ominous message on his Facebook reading: 'Leave me alone, I've had enough' (center). Eastman and Nia's mother separated about two months ago.

U.S. war veteran Luciano Yulfo was left with a big grin and few wet kisses on his face after being surprised with a service dog during a New York Knicks game this week. Yulfo is a retired sergeant first class of the US Army who served for 36 years and was severely injured while in Afghanistan. He has been waiting 18 months for a service dog and finally received one on Wednesday night, thanks to his daughter and the Knicks' Hoops for Troops program. The heartwarming moment was captured on video and showed Yulfo dropping to his knees as he was met with his new service dog, Murphy. The two seemed to become fast friends as they showered each other in hugs and kisses.

Jeral Bornstein, 40, was spotted driving a blue Jeep that had been linked to a retail theft at a Walgreens in Port Richey, Florida, when he gave chase, eventually ending up in a canal. He swam for a distance before disappearing under the water, and two officers jumped in to save him (left). On the shore they determined Bornstein did not have a pulse, and started to administer CPR (right). They were just about to use a defibrillator when he started to breathe. Bornstein later told police he fled because he didn't have a license.

Footage shows the 20ft-long reptile coming through the ceiling tiles in front of shocked customers. The video shows the snake being guided out by workers at the restaurant using a metal hook. It is not clear exactly where the footage was filmed but people in the video can be heard speaking Cantonese, suggesting that it may have been in Hong Kong. One person can be heard saying: 'Look how big it is!' Another adds: 'How disgusting!'
