Ellen DeGeneres' entry to White House for Presidential Medal Of Freedom ceremony is delayed because she forgot to bring her ID 

Ellen DeGeneres made a big mistake when she went to the White House on Tuesday.

The 58-year-old comedienne forgot to bring her ID, causing her to have to wait on a park bench as security checked her out.

The talk show host looked embarrassed in a snap she posted to social media.

Her spouse: Ellen was joined at the event by her wife Portia De Rossi

'They haven't let me in to the White House yet because I forgot my ID. #NotJoking #PresidentialMedalOfFreedom' she wrote on Twitter.  

But then it was revealed the blonde funny lady was soon let in.

Ellen looked dapper in a maroon plaid suit, black shirt and white-soled sneakers.

DeGeneres was joined at the event by her wife Portia De Rossi, who was dressed in a white top and black skirt with pumps. 

Later the funny lady was seen breaking down in tears as Obama put his hand on her shoulders after awarding her the medal.

She seems to have been overcome with emotion at the ceremony.

The list of Presidential Medal of Freedom honorees includes Diana Ross, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Robert DeNiro, Tom Hanks, Robert Redford and Bruce Springsteen.

They are all set to receive their medals on Tuesday.

The award is for 'individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,' according to the White House. 

The ceremony was streamed on the White House's official site at 3 pm ET.

And the celebrity shared a snap of herself and Portia after the event on Twitter.

Ellen's pre taped show on Tuesday featured guest Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls fame.
