Brad Pitt will not be prosecuted by the FBI over an alleged altercation with his son Maddox, as one law enforcement source says there was no case to begin with.
Pitt was on a private jet from France to Los Angeles with his wife and children when he started screaming, prompting Angelina Jolie to file for divorce days later, it has been reported.
The LA County Department of Children and Family Services looked into allegations that Brad physically abused Maddox and notified the LAPD, which then turned to the FBI.
Law enforcement sources said the FBI never opened an official investigation and that the agency should not have been involved in the first place, TMZ reported.

Jolie filed for divorce shortly after the incident, seeking sole physical custody of the couple's six children (pictured back in 2008)
'The FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued,' the agency said in a statement last week.
Sources close to Jolie said the actress would refuse to cooperate with police if Pitt was prosecuted, but that was never going to happen, TMZ reported.
Law enforcement sources told the website the case will not move forward, and that the incident should have never been referred to the FBI.
Maddox, 15, was not injured and law enforcement sources said there was 'no way to conclusively prove Brad intentionally inflicted harm on his son.'
US Weekly reported that cameras at Minnesota’s International Falls Airport, where the private jet touched down for a refueling stop on the way to LA, captured the argument between Maddox and Pitt.
However, a source who saw the video claims: 'Brad is seen yelling a lot during it, but nothing physical.'

According to TMZ, Jolie claims Pitt got drunk after the alleged altercation with Maddox in Minnesota - and not before, which Pitt's team maintains.
DCFS turned up at Pitt's door on September 17 after an anonymous call alleging the child abuse, InTouch Weekly reported.
DCFS did not require a urine sample for its investigation, but Brad Pitt volunteered to be tested for drugs and alcohol to show he has nothing to hide.
Pitt and Jolie have since agreed to a temporary custody arrangement, which allowed him to see his kids since Jolie filed for divorce, People reported.
The temporary custody arrangement expires on October 20, at which point a new agreement will be negotiated. It also requires Brad, Angelina and the children to go to family therapy as well as individual therapy.
Jolie is seeking sole custody, while Brad is asking for shared custody.
In legal documents filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Jolie asked for physical custody of the couple's children - Maddox, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10 and eight-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
She also filed for Pitt to be granted child visitation rights and to share legal custody of the children.
