He's garnered loyal fans for his roles on Buffy, Angel and Bones.

And David Boreanaz has revealed the bizarre request he is always asked by his most-devoted fans during meet-and-greets.

His Bones character Seeley Booth regularly sported eccentric socks on the series, which may have started the fascination with fans.

'I like Paul Smith socks, so they are always asking for my socks,' David told the panel hosts.

While a pair of Paul Smith socks usually retail for around $32, the sentimental value must far outweigh this for his hardcore superfans.

When the confused Project team asked 'why?', David appeared just as bewildered.

'Who knows... Cristiano Ronaldo gets asked for them, too.  Amazing. I don't even play soccer,' the actor joked.

He also hinted that he may indulge the common fan request, saying: 'If you come down to Supernova, maybe you will get a pair of my socks. Who knows.'

In the past he told Entertainment Weekly: 'I like socks. I’m a sock guy.'

When the interview turned to reflecting on Buffy's recent 20th anniversary EW cover shoot, David added: 'it became this cult sensation. It just took all of us for a ride and it was a great time. Come down the Supernova and we will talk about it.'

While his character Angel was only meant to appear for six episodes, David went on to act in 58 and get his own spin-off in Angel.

The Project team asked when he knew the gig was turning into a full-time role, which David wrapped up with a joke.

'That is a good question. I think when my socks were disappearing,' he said with a chuckle.
