With the release of her latest single, “Cool Me Down” Margaret the artist has a clear intention of broadening her range with reggae flavored beats, and a video that has catapulted beyond two million views in just a short couple of weeks since release.

Ahead of Margaret’s 25th birthday ARTISTdirect caught up with the singer to discuss her world view, her home town and her humble approach to being ambitious.

Hello – Please introduce yourself.

I am Margaret. If you’re lazy, I can be Maggie also 🙂 I am 24, but in few days I am gonna turn 25-and I don’t like that idea.

Where are you right now?

Right now in Warsaw. My hometown.

Tell us about your new single: Who did you work with? Where was it recorded? What’s it about? Is there candy?

I recorded it in Malmö, Sweden with this great mix of producers : Robert Uhlmann, Arash, Alex Papaconstantinou, Anderz Wrethov, Viktor Svensson, Linnea Deb. The song itself is about a very hot chic, which apparently I am, or trying to be. (Laughs) To be honest with you, I enjoy that song a lot, cause it’s about rhythm, moves and sexiness. Reggae vibes give it a whole new level to that tune.

How do you describe your music to new friends?

Its bitter-sweet. It looks cute and sweet, but it can get serious, wild and crazy

Other than your music, what should your hometown be known for?

Its funny, cause Warsaw is known for being destroyed during II War. But I would love to change that. Cause, yeah, its true. We don’t have Rome-beautiful buildings, we don’t have charming, little streets… But lets face it – at the end of the day, you just want to hang out and have fun.. and we in Warsaw are the people, you gonna have fun with. Welcome in Warsaw 🙂

Please look around you right now and please describe the first item or person you see that’s significant to you.

I am sitting in the coffee table right now in my apartment, and looking at this beautiful painting. I cant name 1 person who is significant to me through this painting, cause its more global. Its about women. I love watching women. I love their bodies and souls. I think we are funny and smart. Real beauty and the beast. I think its very important to admire women. I think most of the times (Laughs) We deserve it.

What first inspired you to pursue music? If it was a musician or a specific piece of music, please tell us all about why you find it so inspirational…

Well, it was .. nobody. I mean I just couldn’t help it. Singing and dancing to my best tracks gave me so much happiness that I didn’t need anybody to inspire me to do it, Of course, later on- there was a lot artists that influenced me, but in the beginning, it was just music.

What’s the best advice anyone has given you about pursuing a life in music?

To be humble. And I stand for that.

Not including your current crew, who (alive or dead) would you love to have in your van for an all day drive from gig to gig?

I would love to invite Amy Winehouse and Tony Bennett. I think that even in the bus – I could hear beautiful voices of those 2. I am kinda a jazz fan, and I really regret that they recorded only one song , and not a whole album. That would be something

What is the best reaction to your music you have experienced so far?

I’ve experienced a lot of smiles. And that’s the most important. Of course , there is some awards that I really appreciate and I am proud of.. like best Polish act – MTV music awards, and some gold and platinum awards for my single and album… but SMILES ! SMILE is the biggest awards I can get from a fan.

Take a moment to dream – Where do hope to be a year from now?

I would love to have European or even international tour 🙂 thats the goal

What’s your next step towards that dream?

Songs. I am working on new material right now. It sounds interesting. I am very excited
