DAMASCUS, SYRIA (7:50 A.M.) – Preluded by multiple Israeli airstrikes, Syrian rebel forces based in Quneitra province mobilized considerable numbers for a huge Golan Heights offensive this weekend, targeting the government-held town of Madinat al-Baath.
After unifying their commander center under the so-called ‘Army of Muhammed’ operations room, Islamist factions – spearheaded by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham – initially overran many points and killed roughly a dozen members of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA):
However, the SAA later pushed the rebel militants back to their original positions after a highly effective counter-offensive took place on Sunday evening, resulting in the recapture of all lost points and untimely death of many insurgents.
With zero gains in the bag thus far, rebel commanders are expected to resume their offensive in the coming week in a bid to relieve collapsing frontlines in the East Ghouta and Daraa city, two nearby areas where the SAA has won the upper hand.
