Tom Hanks says making Toy Story 4 was 'so emotional' he couldn't look at his crew while recording the voice over

It's been 24 years since Disney's Toy Story hit big screens but the franchise is still going strong.

And on Wednesday, Tom Hanks, 62, made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about the newest film in the crop, Toy Story 4.

'It's probably about the most rewarding thing I could've been a part of,' the Oscar-winning actor said of the films.

Toy Story will never die, it will 'live on forever,' Hanks told Ellen.

But that knowledge didn't stop the actor, who voices the character Woody in the films, from getting emotional while recording the last film in the series.

He told Ellen that Tim Allen, who voices Buzz, had warned him over text about how evocative the ending of the movie was, writing to Hanks, 'Wait till you see those last pages. Tough one. Tough one.'

Hanks explained that the script did, in fact, tug at his heart strings, so much so that he couldn't look at his producers while recording.

'We're saying goodbye to Woody and Buzz and Bonnie's room and Andy and everybody and it was emotional so I had to turn my back on them all,' he said.

But when Ellen responded with sadness over the series coming to an end, Hanks responded, 'Is it over? I don't know. It'll live forever, that's one thing about it,' joking, 'I'm looking forward to a possible three year extension.'

And while The Forrest Gump actor was reminiscing about '90s Disney films, he recalled being the first mock guest for The Ellen DeGeneres Show 16 years ago.

'When you said that you had lost your career for a while?' he said, continuing, 'Remember back when that was the day, when America sort of operated that way? And it turns out...' he shrugged, referencing when Ellen came out on her show.

'They don't mind I'm gay, they're like "ok,"' Ellen said to applause.

Later, during a game of burning questions, Ellen jokingly answered the question 'What's one thing that you tried that you'll never do again,' with 'I dated men.'

The Sully actor later discussed being denied a 'brewski' at the Stagecoach festival because he didn't understand wristbands, walking up to the beer tent and ordering a cold one without having visited the ID check first.

When the bartenders refused to serve him he says he told them, 'I'm 62-years-old and you know my name!'

While he did credit the servers for not caving, he didn't stop bargaining (and arguing) for his beer.

'I argued with them for 20 minutes...I said "honestly, do you not have eyes?,' Hanks said. 'My wife is performing in that tent in, like, 15 minutes!"'

He even tried to buy them off with free tickets.

'You will come to the Toy Story premiere with me!' he told them, saying that once the manager was called that all she could do was laugh at him.
