Love Island breaks ITV2 viewing records for THIRD time this series... as fans tune into most tense recoupling yet

It's been the go-to series of the summer, trending on Twitter night after night and gripping the nation with its continual twists and drama. 

Now Love Island has broken records yet again, scoring ITV2 and Love Island’s highest rating ever for the third time, following Monday night's tense recoupling episode. 

The episode - which saw the original Islanders reunited after spending some time apart with new people in separate villas - achieved 3.4m viewers with a 17.4% share.

There was a spike in viewers, up by 1.5 million and a 8.0 share points on the equivalent episode last year. 

The episode, which had the highest 16-34 audience for a digital channel programme ever, peaked with a whopping 4 million viewers.

During the episode, some of the most talked about moments saw Wes Nelson left dismayed when he chose to stay loyal to Megan Barton-Hanson, who had recoupled with new boy Alex Miller.

The record breaking viewing figures, signals a new record, which was broken just days before during Sunday's episode, when the girls were shown a video of their partners' antics in neighbouring villa Casa Amor. 

The installment, which saw Dani break down in tears after discovering her boyfriend Jack's ex had entered the show, scored a whopping 3.7 million viewers at its peak.

The dramatic episode drew in a huge 3.2 million viewers with a 13.6% share - the most ITV2 has ever received for any of its shows. 

Proving to have only become more popular this time round, the episode also beat its equivalent installment last year, which drew in 1.1 million less viewers.

The episode beat the much-anticipated spin off Good Evening Britain, which aired on ITV after the England vs Belgium World Cup game, by 100,000 viewers. 

It is no wonder so many tuned into Sunday night's installment, as a teaser had shown fan favourite Dani discovering her boyfriend Jack's ex was staying with him in the second villa. 

The daughter of EastEnders actor Danny Dyer was shown a video of Jack, 26, realising his ex Ellie Jones had entered Casa Amor, without being informed of the loyalty and respect he has shown towards her. 

The episode subsequently since received more than 650 Ofcom complaints over the 'cruel' tactics by show producers. 

It is the ITV2 show's most complained about episode, with a spokesperson adding: 'We are considering these complaints against our broadcasting rules, before deciding whether or not to investigate.'
